I like to put my transducer with the bottom just above the bottom of the ice if I don't drill a separate hole for it. I don't get many tangles this way.
It seems to go from zero to hero all some have to do is lie.

Been there, done that.   Went to an extra hole several years ago.

I don't know how thick your ice is, but I have a 5" mora I use to drill a separate hole for my transducer no tangles at all

Never had an issue with just setting the hook while my rod is up reach down pull the ducer. This is just the way I do it. Kind of muscle memory. Drilling an extra hole would not be an issue either. I don’t set up till I find fish anyway.

I like having a transducer arm for this reason.  One thing that I got is a flasher from each manufacturer and all but marcum come with the floats which can be a PITA.  Fortunately you can buy or make arms for the ducer.

I just hitch a length of para cord to my transducer cord that I can yank the transducer out of the hole with if needed. cost me like 11 cents.
