Fish are able to break their spines and still be able to swim and survive. Probably some trauma when the fish was small.
Come on fish!

Here on lake winnebago they are fairly common. We call em humpbacks, I believe it's a genetic mutation of sorts.

A google image search of "hump back walleyes" gives a dozen or so similar examples.

I have seen this in the local trout fish hatchery a lot. It is usually a birth defect but the fish typically do ok with and are usually healthy.

Yes, I think whirling disease too. Lot of information on google. I've caught a few hatchery trout with it. Never a wild trout. From the photos, obviously in other species too. Like was mentioned, if you can filet them you are good.

Looks like a typical hatchery injury, however it can also happen by a injury caused by a larger fish when this distorted fish was young! I gave seen quite  a few of this type injuries on hatchery trout caught by hook and line!

Cormorants are the culprit in many cases.

We get them in lake Arthur in pa from time to time.  Not sure what it's all about, but have caught multiple ones resembling yours in the past couple years.
