I am looking for a good ice fishing boot. I have narrowed it down to the Baffin Wolf boot or the Cabella's Inferno 2000 Pac boot.
Baffin is good up to -40°F, no laces, has a removable liner,midcalf design, weighs 4lbs 6.5 oz/pair and price is ~$185
Cabella's has 2000 gram thinsulate material, mid calf design, has laces, 5.7 lbs/pair and is $112
I will get the BPS redhead wool life time warranty sock to pair these with but I am not sure what size boot to get? I wear a shoe depending on the manufacturer anywhere between an US 11 or US 12. So what size boot should I get when using wool socks?
Any pointers or opinions would be greatly appreciated!

Cabelas Predator or Trans Alaska. I'd be surprised in you needed anything more than a a pair of hanes in either. True to size. Haven't worn baffins.

Not familiar with either boot ...but I like a slip on/off boot ...wicking liner and a good wool sock ...also suggest a size larger for wiggle room . Find a retailer that has a good liberal return policy w/free returns . Buying boots on line can be challenging .

I can't help with what boot. I have 2 sets of baffin but they are the snow monster and titan. So far I like them but. Because of work I have not been fishing as much as I would like to.
For the baffin you could check reviews on amazon on how they fit. And or call baffin. I did both

I have Baffin impacts that I just purchased this year....they look to be very similar to Baffin wolf? I had the Cabelas boots for a few years....I absolutely love my Baffin impacts....my feet get cold fairly easily and honestly I wear a thin pair of under armor socks with the Baffin and stay unbelievably warm...when and if they ever wear out I will defiantly buy Baffin again....

I have the Baffin Impacts as well. Very warm boot. Your feet will not be cold. Easy on and easy off. They run about a size larger. Only drawback is that they are not 100% waterproof. A couple hours in the slush and your feet will be damp.

That's the general consensus that I am getting, is that the Baffin's are not 100% waterproof, but water resistant.
I will check out the Impacts.

I would look at the cabelas trans Alaskan boots also. On sale for $153 right now. As warm as the baffins if not warmer in my opinion, and completely waterproof. I have the Inferno and while I have no complaints and I really like them and would recommend them, I would rather have a more simple pull on design. Speed laces are fine, but no laces are even better.

Cabelas trans alaskan or the sascatchewans. I believe they are the same boot one just has camo pattern and scentlock.

I've had the Inferno 2000's and Baffin Control Max pacs and the Baffins win hands down in every aspect for me.
People worry about them not being waterproof but all you have to do is hit the stitches with some seam grip or similar product and you are good to go. I've fished with several inches of slush and water on the ice and never had we feet.

The baffin titan is all rubber and same liner as the impact, better for ice fishing and best winter boot ive owned

I go with a tech/silk/1.0 weight ...then add from there 3.0 or 4.0 weight depending on the weather temperatures forecast for that day ...atop that a good hoodie ...the best investment I have made for warmth is a good fleece vest ..if your core is warm your extremities will be too ... my outer layer is SI Predator Parka/Bibs ...most days don't need the Parka .

I got my boots and bibs today. Pretty quick seeing as I ordered at 9pm on Tuesday night.
As for my Cabella boots, these things are huge lol. The mid calf portion of the boot needs to be broken in, it is quite stiff. Also I ordered a size 12 boot, depending on my shoes I am either an 11 or 12, well i should of gotten a size 13 to begin with. Tomorrow I will head to a Cabella's store that is ~30 mins away to exchange them.
My bibs fit perfectly. Just loose enough for me. They are not digging at the crotch while standing or squatting.

Both of those boots have too much insulation. Unless you're sleeping outside without a sleeping bag you don't need more than 600 gram Thinsulate in your boots. Many winters working at ski resorts taught me much about boots and outerwear. One thing I learned is when your feet sweat they will get colder than when they are dry. I used to wear the warmest rated boots I could get. Now I wear 400 gram boots when the temps are above -10 and 600 gram boots when it's colder. My feet are more comfortable now that they were with the heavier boots. That makes my whole body feel better.

With the high insulated boots, you don't necessarily need a thick wool sock. Wear a polypropylene sock and you favorite sock after that.

The real key thing is after a day wearing the boots pull the liners out and allow them and in the inside of the boot to dry !
I wear Kamik Goliath's with one medium weight wool sock and never have cold feet, unless i for get to dry the boots from the day before !

why wouldn't you all just get boot dryers after spending the money on the boots, I love a nice warm boot to start out with anyway :-) plus don't have to pull/restuff liners to the boots.. :-)

Best bet is to buy 2 pairs of boots and alternate days. That gives them time to dry thoroughly before you put them back on. I find it's helpful to take the boots off the dryer at least an hour before wearing them. Putting your feet in warm boots feels good for a few minutes but your feet get hot and start sweating very quickly. Putting your feet in a cooler boot doesn't trigger the sweating and your feet stay dry longer.

I have owned Cabelas brand rubber boots and they didn't last. The rubber broke down and they cracked after only 1 season. The LaCrosse Alpha Burleys lasted 2 years and the muck Arctic Pro 3 years. I ice fish around 80 some odd days a year. In the old days I always wore the LaCross boots and they lasted for years but since they moved production to China they aren't the same.

I never had a rubber boot before articles said the Baffin hunter was good boot,...i upped to the next level of boot which was the Baffin trapper
under 100 bux on the internet search around
perfect ice fishing......good in slush good tread not real heavy. removeable liner ........only objection i had it is a taller boot than my old sorel caibou waterproof

Could not get my feet in the cabelas boot had to go 2 sizes up,then I could not get them off .And they walk funny.
Bought the Baffins ,Tag said water proof. So I bought them.i Then I found out threw Baffn its only the first few inches that are rubber ,the upper part that is nylon are not water prof. Feet got wet from cutting holes with Auger.
I now have plastic bags between linner and boot.
Only boots I know that are good for -100 and water proof also have steel toes in them

Kamik Goliath or ice breakers! no steel, super warm had them for 4 years not a single problem !
Pull the liners out to dry the inside of the rubber boot and the felt after a full day and your feet will never be cold Or wet!

I bought my Infernos in Jan 2017..... We got a warm spell and all of our ice melted. Fast Forward 1 year later and it it New Years day 2018.... Hopfully this year I'll be able to get out and use my new boots. lol

Haven't looked at either of those boots but I wear muck boot arctic pro's cost $160 put some aggressive ice spikes on the bottom tied on with an old boot lace so they don't shift around and they are amazing on the ice

I can't explain it, but muck boots are very warm for the weight and thickness, plus have the added bonus of being waterproof. I walk a lot, so the weight is a big deal for me. I have used the Muck peak essential the last 2 years, hunting and fishing, and have never been cold. They are mucks, but lace up like hunting boots. Your socks will be damp with sweat after a day, so swap pairs daily.

I like my Baffin wolf boots. They feel lightweight on the feet and comfortable to walk in on ice/snow etc.
Feet stay warm and never seem cold or overheated or damp.
If your in the Iowa City area, Pauls discount had a few pairs remaining of these for around $80 a pair in the black/gold(Orange) color. They also had a few pairs of the Baffin Tundra also.

I've had the cabelas infernos for a year now and love them, but I got the BOA lace version. Fast and easy to get off and on. I swap into and out of them after arriving at and leaving the ice. I first switched to bootswith the BOA system for my snowmobile boots several years ago. I've since also switched to BOA in my fly fishing wading boots, these ice fishing boots, and my day to day winter boots (cabelas boa snowrunner boot). So fast in and out which i really appreciate when you add in cold hands and snow, ice or water on laces.
