Saginaw river danger
« on: Feb 20, 2022, 08:37 AM »
Ive gotten quite a few messages over the past few days asking if the river is still safe..... I WOULD NOT SET 1FOOT ON THAT RIVER RIGHT NOW.....the river is moving 3-4 times faster than normal.... Fastest ive ever caught fish on the river was about 4000 cubic feet per second... Right now its at 18,000.... You would have to fish with a downrigger ball to keep your bait below you in any fashion and even then i doubt it would stay.... Not to mention with the warmer water from the rain and the speed of the water it has to be eroding the ice st an exponential rate.... Plus the next 3 days being in the 40s and high winds.... Id imagine you start to see open water on the sag

Fished it yesterday. Was sitting on 7” of ice but the current being so strong and water looking like mud it’s not worth fishing right now anyhow.
