Rod Repair
« on: Feb 05, 2010, 12:01 PM »
So I have a St. Croix Legend series fishing rod I got last year and first time out this year I noticed the rod end between the tip and the first eyelet was split.  I am sure the warranty is up and do not want to pay the shipping fees to have St. Croix look at it.  Anyone know how to fix this or know where I can take it to get it fixed?  I am in Oakland County.  Any help is appreciated.

Only thing you could really do is cut the rod at the crack, strip the guides, and reassemble.  Once the graphite cracks, game over.

I thought St. Croix had a life time warrenty if it is the fault of the rod.
I would call the company first.

I have sent rod back the St. Croix about 5 times now.  That reminds me, I have three more to go back soon.  Send the stick, a written description of the problem, and $15 to St. Croix.  They will take care of you.  A lengthwise split in the blank sounds a like a manufacturing flaw to me.  I have broken more rods than most people will ever own, and the only thing close to that I have seen resulted from crushing the blank, but that results in more than one crack.

I have a buddy who repairs rods and he has made his own ice fishing rods before. He has also repaired some bass rods for me in the past. He probrably would charge a good price if you would like I could check with him!!!!!! :)
