« on: Dec 14, 2017, 09:28 AM »
Will hunt today with a snow day. Muzzle time!
Any reports of ice  conditions in nw ct appreciated. Will walk on it Sunday if I can. May recon Friday or Saturday afternoon.
Will probably check mount Tom and waramaugbtoday since they are very close To my hunting spot.
If you can't play nice, get off the ice!

With the temps we have had and how skim ice has been holding l would say the chances are good. If truck wasn't in shop I would be checking a few spots I figure should be fishable.

Smaller ponds around me this morning were completely iced up with snow on top. Meaning there was some ice there for a few days. The few spots I passed were private so I didn't get out to check, but it could be promising. The bigger lake by me mostly froze over last night. Not sure how these warm temps next week will affect anything that isn't fairly established already.

Measured about 1.5 inches last night in Suffield and went out today on about 2 inches (over shallow water) at a pond in Windsor at 3:00. Hopefully theres at least 3 up in suffield tomorrow morning  ;D

Was only there for about 45 minutes and only planned on drilling around the edges of the whole pond check how thick it was, so after i did that i had about 15 minutes to fish and it was still sketchy ice so i diddnt go out far and diddnt get anything.

Checked most small ponds in the northwest corner today most had around 2 to 3.5 inchs westside pond is still little thin and dog is fishable but bring a spud bar and check as u walk hoping for stillwater by Monday

Hey all, just wanted to advise that my son and I made it to Mashapaug this morning to scout. I spudded through disappointingly quickly right at the launch and the drilled a hole through a measured 2" of ice. Not enough for me.

I know we all want to be out there but close to "safe" still "isn't safe".

Had 2 inches at Black Pond in Middlefield right in front of the ramp in maybe a foot of water. There was open spots out in the deeper spots. See what happens over the week.

Guess I know where not to go. Now that the word is out it will be mobbed. Hopefully the ice skaters won't take over whole pond.

JimT

I'm in Woodstock and if time permits might head over to Bigaliw.  New to area and have never fished it.  Are there any areas there  where the ice is unsafe and I should absolutely avoid?  Will hit it with a Spud bar anyway but thought I would check.
