Getting close here. Ice starting again. Most of the deeper lakes still open, we need the wind to lay down. Got by Shawano today.
Shawano lake was mostly frozen over this morning, not much ice yet and very uneven , see some duck holes out there yet. Won't be long.

Korth lake, still open around the bend.

May take a ride farther north this weekend will post back on ice situation.

Hoping by next Wednesday Or Thursday there will be safe ice on some lakes in Waupaca and Waushara co.

Drive by Shawano lake this morn. There was one guy out at least a couple hundred yards off 117 fishing. I’ll have time to check the ice thickness on Shawano and some more lakes tomorrow.

Well we got about 7-8 inches of snow which isn’t going to help make ice. Good news is the wind was howling last night and blew some of it off the lakes. Just stopped by Shawano lake this morning.  One small perm shack out on Cecil bay.. I stopped and walked out on Swan acres landing about 200 yards pop a couple holes there was at least 4 to 6 inches that close to shore.  Stopped at White Clay lake only had about 3 inches right by the Boatlanding so I did not venture out any further.

Boot lake spooked me a bit, Some double layer ice, lots of slush areas. There is lots of snow!  Bottom layer was only a couple inches thick so I decided not to go any further . Once all freezes up it’ll be good to go.



Achibald lake was better,  at least 4-5 inches quite a ways out.  Saw two other guys out fishing.


Roberts lake was pretty thin, 6” of snow no ready for prime time yet.


Shawano lake had the best ice I checked today,  Archibald I would be very careful going out too far. The rest of the lakes I checked were not very safe, I’m going to wait a bit and check them again.  Forecasted lows look pretty good for the next couple nights.

I'd say it's the perfect time to drive in a lake.

We are making ice now! Low temps in the negative teens! Was by shawano lake in Cecil bay this evening, there were quite a few perm shacks moving out further. Snowmobiles and 4 wheelers out, no trucks yet. I checked one spot and found 10" other guys said they mostly had between 9-11".

The bay is freezing up quickly with the temps! People are fishing the lower west side close to shore and inside.. little tail and long tail since last week.
