Anyone from Menomonie WI
« on: Sep 18, 2011, 01:58 PM »
I just transferred to UW-Stout this year to complete my degree. I commute 2 hours every day from Wausau. Just wondering what there is to do in between classes and also where some good spots are to ice fish in the winter once it gets here. I might bring my shack and wheeler for a trip when the time comes.

I work a few miles north of Menononie, but never fished the area. You have Menomin right in town, or Tainter just north a bit. The locals should be able to point you in the right direction. Check wi.dnr for free lake maps of the area.

I was a student at Stout for 5+ years. Menomin is pretty good early and can produce numbers mid winter. The past few years have been slower for me but other guys have been catching more than normal. Some big crappies are around. Mostly pan fish is what we target. The limit is 10 panfish but I don't take more than 3-4 if I bring any home. Most days I don't feel like getting the knife dirty. I still live in the area so when time comes look me up.
Tight lines and safe fishing.
