Yea its good to see the fishin picking back up in the bay again...  had a long stretch where you couldnt catch a quarter of a pail if you wanted to...   But i had some luck myself a couple days ago.

I can smell a perch a mile away...

To dp:
Nice job, those 50 will be real good (If you split with your bud) bagged and in the freezer!

To perchin101:
That's just wrong, at any level. The fishery cannot sustain everyone taking that many fish. They ought to ban selling and buying freshwater fish. That kind of slaughter will be the end of great icefishing here in NY.

Just my opinion, do not take it personal!

The fishery is better than ever now and its because so many fish are taken out.  we got rid of all the netters so people need to take fish out to keep them at this nice size...  otherwise it would be over the carrying capacity and full of dinks like half the lakes with 50 limits.   Fish on and keep pullin slobs like that through the hole....   and besides its not every guy on  the ice that can do that regularly

WalPerPike,

I did split them with my buddy and they are vac-packed in the freezer, along with 767 other ones.  This brought the total up to 897 kept for the ice fishing season.  I share fillets with my buddy and give to family and friends who do not ice fish.  I typically do not keep hardly any fish through the open water, some rock bass and walleyes is about it.  We eat all the ones from the ice fishing season throughout the year.

Not to start a heated discussion, but if you understood the fishery in the Chaumont area and maybe you do, you would understand that fish need to be taken out of the system.  Trust me, I have struggled with accepting the stories of people selling 1000's of pounds of fish from this area, but it does need to happen and it does not and has not hurt the fishery.  And like PERCHIN101 said, not everyone can catch them like that regularly.

Riverrat2, caught them jigging.

only problem with that is the netter's aren't gone. they are still setting 1500 feet or more of gill nets a night in chaumont bay, they start in 3 mile in the spring and work all over the bay untill ice up. imagine what kind of fishery we would have if they were gone. they are grandfathered in so they have their lisence for the rest of their life. no harvest that hook and line guys can take can come close to the totals from nets like that. most of us that fish here dread seeing that boat near our fishing spots... any bite we had going will be gone within a day or two.

nice mess of perch man...I love those days when you run out of buckets.

your right all the netters are not gone, there is one left and i kinda know the guy.  He does still set in the bay, but after all the others got caught and lost there license the fishery had really rebounded.   Esspecially the walleyes too.  Its no different than deer tho, if you dont take a bunch out they croud themselves out and food becomes limited.  The reason that some may think the fishery is not the greatest is because your not catching a lot of fish.  this however doesnt mean the fish are not there, they just have a lot of food to choose from.  Couldnt tell ya the # of days i sat there and watched just about every perch swim up and then leave on the camera, didnt matter what i threw at them.  Just gotta catchem when their hungry.  But the fishery is just going to keep getting better and the fish even bigger with the introduction of gobbies, catching them may be a different story tho.
