The end is near 2024
« on: Feb 29, 2024, 09:38 AM »
I just drove by the Gillette Fishing lake on my way to work this morning and it was completely open. High winds and warm will do that. Heard Airport in Glendo was blowing open fast as well. I've made one trip out this year crazy! I had surgery around X-mas and was told to stay on light duty so I did.

There is still plenty of ice here to fish on but I think I am just getting things cleaned up and ready on the boat and honey do list for the walleye spawn when the ice comes off. Hope your better for boating season appleye, maybe see you on the soft water.

Same here on the lakes around Pinedale. Big storm forecast for the weekend…

But it looks like warm temperatures in the 14 day forecast for Riverton.  50 degrees and windy may get you out on your boat by the end of March!

Glendo is about 90% open looking at the web cam. Angostura in SD is open. Orman SD is breaking up still locked though. Report Keyhole still had 12" but the edge was soft.

Still some ice up here along with temps that will preserve and even grow ice but that steepening sun angle is gonna seal the deal sooner than later  :'(

New prop to see if I can get a little more speed out of the boat should be here Monday. Got all the ice gear put away as the edges are opening up and ice getting soft at times. So I am getting closer to being ready for open water. Need to sneak away and fish the edges that are open now and the river below the dam of the Reservoir.  The Temps this week though have me thinking that the ice will be around for a few more weeks here.

I heard that there are open spots on boysen around some areas, like sand Mesa had some good open water along the edges and the north shore of cotton wood had an open patch and the down along the marina to the dam the edges were breaking open. Buddy hit ocean on long point amd said the ice was all the way to shore, changing a bit of color but nothing open enough there to get to excited about the boat or long poles yet.

The ice is nearly gone on Muddy Guard #1, but Healy and Lake DeSmet are both still totally ice covered (as of March 8).

Heard that some people catching some fish along the shore as the ice melts away. Slow presentation was the ticket at boysen but looks like the boat ramp bay is open. One more wind storm and some of the lake might be fishable with the boat.

Boysen looks quite fishable from shore! Get out there!  Wish I was closer for sure.

Just looked at the cam myself and was talking to myself about being able to get the boat in and try the new prop, need to go and check the little lake and see if that is a go or not.

That’s crazy! I’ve been a class all week and haven’t looked at anything. I thought Boysen would be weeks but there it is.

Boat docks have been put in at the main launch by the Marina as well at Boysen, might have to sneak out and try the boat out this weekend.
