i agree with polar you might as well buy some insted of the hassel of making them or if tight on cash use the strongest super glue and glue tacks on the bottom if you only use them for ice fishin thats what a friend did and he said the work great.
welcome also! ;D

I stud the soles of my boots with #8 x 1/2" hex head sheet metal screws...no straps...can't forget them...can't loose them...you walk naturally...no lumpy cleats....CHEAP!

Best of all they grip like crazy!

Well its not impossible to slip with them but its very hard to and you can walk in them much easier than big cleats and if you step on something it doesn't tear it apart,...so I love my YAX TRAX,..you can but them around here for about 20 bucks,..EZ on and off,..so if you stop in somewhere you don't have to change your boots,.I think the time you take to make ones for your self and the materials you have to still but, I doubt you could do it for 20 bucks and these I still think would be better,....

Hey! Welcome to this site. If you love to tinker and ice fish your in the right place. There's a little friendly fighting that goes on from time to time but when there's ice they'll take a chill.

hollis, perch inc,  I presently am using the original"get-a-grip" spikes like in cabelas, which work well on ice however they have gotten pulled off my -100 deg boots when going through some snow. How are the Yak-Trax when you have a combination of ice and snow.  I'd rather have something removeable but might have try rgfixit's idea. thanks

For 10 bucks the Artic Spurs are the best I have seen. They go on and off real easy and dont cut into the bottom of your foot and they are lite also....

I fish in upstate NY, and we usually have a snow cover on the ice so it is not too bad.  However, for the days you need cleats, hard to beat artic spurs for $10 or so.  I also have a pair of HT pull ons that I got at Walmart for $5.  They work fine and fit over Sorrels, etc., if you get the ones designed to fit over big boots.  I would not try to make cleats unless you have a lot of time to kill.  Main thing to remember is that a bad fall can really hurt you.  A friend of mine dislocated his shoulder when he slipped on some glass like ice.  After spending a few hours in emergency room plus three months of rehab, the corkers, yaktrax, etc. look real cheap!
