I fished Sweets today (11/29/14) along with about 5 other guys scattered in one bay.  The fishing was good but the catching was real slow.  I thickness ran about 4 inches of clear ice.  Top inch above the 4 inches of clear ice was cloudy from snow melt.  Good enough for scattered guys fishing solo but I would not all stand in one place yet.
take care,
Dave  :>)

I think it froze before big woods in cedar falls and that lake had 5" or more this morning about 7.  Nice clear ice. I could mark trees on the vexilar through the ice it was that clear. A little water on the ice, put the transducer on it and it read right through.

I heard big woods is iffy because there is a lot of springs in it. Any truth to it?

I can usually pull a few out.  Early on I can get more for numbers.  Size was pretty good last year for me for crappie, but I don't think it was for everyone.  I very rarely if ever fish it for longer than an hour.  I just hit it quick on my way to or from work.  If you heard someone was on it I would be very surprised if it wasn't me.  I drive past it a couple of times a day and haven't seen anyone else out there yet.

Enough springs I wouldn't drive on it.  I've never found much inconsistency in the ice when I've drilled though.

I don't think you can drive it. A truck and 2 ATV have gone through a few years ago. The biggest spring  is about w 200 yards north of the shelter at the south end.

Yeah, we tried it on Wednesday and marked maybe 2 fish and missed a bite. Don't think we'll be back anytime soon.

Drove by yesterday on our way home from Volga.  Was about 1/2 dz. trucks out on the south side of martens and one truck and 3 other huts on the north end.  Not sure about the bite, but it was nice to see people out.
