I know my Ion looked the same this weekend.  People keep warning me about the danger of melting ice  and how they saw on TV that people had to take their bob houses off the lakes (not sure where they heard that) I smile and nod.  Then I tell them that in the last 2 weeks we have gained 1" -2" of ice and that it is around 2' thk. and they just tilt their head and open their mouth like a dog in disbelief.   2' of ice still doesn't make 70 deg. in Feb any less obscene.

agree... I was servicing HVAC units today taking advantage of the break in the weather.. a lot of tank tops and shorts taking walks on their breaks

It's only obscene if you aren't fishing when it's this warm!

Luckily I will be making an attempt at some night fishing here in MA.
(MA allows for fishing lights and I have a thrown-together rig I was to try out.)

The end is in sight, but you'll need a REALLY good pair of binoculars in order to see it!

Same here. Everyone I know who doesn't come fishing with me thinks I'm crazy for not panicking and pulling my bobhouse off the lake yet. And I'll agree that 70° anytime before April is rather obscene

I must say when I got home from work yesterday I was feeling like I should be getting a bucket of eels and heading for the boat.. I made a comment to my better half...My wife ( who does not fish) told me I was a silly old man and needed to wake up... it's still February... your on "ice fishing vacation next week".. "remember last year" she quipped... I promptly got a cold beer and changed 10% of the water in my bait tank !Bring on March!

"remember last year" she quipped... I promptly got a cold beer and changed 10% of the water in my bait tank !Bring on March!

Definitely a roller coaster with high temperatures these past couple days. I'm located in south eastern NY. high on Wednesday got between 75-80 in my area now raining and Wintry mix or up to 2 inches of snow forecast. There was a big contest this past Sunday around an hours drive from me in southwestern Catskill Mtn.area the lake had 12 inches of ice but have notice many small pounds (under 1 acre surface area only had a skim coat of ice. This years season is winding down once March comes to my region it is not only ice thickness but condition that determines if I personally will venture out onto ice surface. I had similar temperature high las Feb.24Th (70-75) then on March 13 TH received a foot of snow. Leaves me wondering what is happening to our world.

I fished the "Housy" when I was in Ct in the late 70"s. They had a PCB thing going on there no one keep trout. Floated it in my canoe wailed on the browns they were easy to catch you could see them glowing in the water.

could be a really dumb thought or question. But with the crazy swing in temps I know from my open water bass fishing experience it can significantly turn the bite off for the fish. Do you think different temperature differences effect "Ice fishing" fish. I mean, i guess it's still a change in barometric pressure? Just a thought.
