What are your favorite types of line for jigging up perch? I just got my new TB perch sweetheart and i want to spool it up with some good line. So lets hear it! :icefish:
-
My favorite is the Lindy ice line, 2lb. It's getting tough to find though... I think they discontinued it. >:(
The stuff is like silk, even when it's very cold.
Most of the copolymer ice lines are good. Just avoid anything that claims to be "100% flurocarbon" or "extra tough".
-
Well everyone will have a different answer but I like 3 lb p-line flourice. I used to do the 2lb but I believe the 3lb is at least twice as strong. IMO monofilament comes with too much memory and a braid will most likely freeze up. I have caught plenty of nice walleyes and bass on the stuff with no problems and even a few nice northerns. Oh yeah- and plenty of perch!
-
2 pound P-Line or Norhland's Bionic
-
Call me a sucker...and i know a lot of guys refuse to use it...but I like a braided line. Obviously the smaller the better. I like the micro spyderwire...seemed to work well last year. I even managed to bring up a few pike pike and a couple large bass I'm pretty sure I would have lost with out it. My buddy went out with me when I pulled in a 28" pike with my ultralight rig fishin for gills...switched out the line on all his poles the next week when I saw him. To each their own...just my 2 cents.
-
One more thing to add...I typically will be fishing out of a heated shack...either my permie or the portable. Between taking the kids out or the wife...I always fish in 80 deg comfort. Which is why I have never had any problems with freezing up on the braids, but if you're a run and gunner...may be problematic...I just haven't experienced it yet
-
Have you guys tried the nanofil? I really like it for strength and feel.
-
My favorite line????....WET!
-
I was thinking about using some type of braid for the no/little stretch quality when fishing in deeper water. But i will be fishing 50/50 in my clam and outside so i really dont want to have to deal with the freeze up...Hmmm i have heard good things about the lindy ice line . And i have not tried nanofil yet.

My favorite line????....WET!
I can relate to that!!

They do still have it on the Lindy website.

Have any of you tried Berkley Fireline Micro Ice Crystal? all the reviews look good. Just want some more feedback.

Amen!
I've been using Trilene Micro Ice in 6 lb test for everything. Guys up here shy away from Berkly line...they say it has too much memory. IDK, I am new to this game.....just sharing whats going on up here.....
-
4lb Bionic Ice by Northland Fishing Tackle does the job for me. :icefish:
-
Thanks for all the replies!

Nanofil
-
I found some Lindy on EBay. Order 2 - 6lb. for walleye. I believe there was some 3 lb.
-
I got about 8 spools of the 2lb in a drawer. It was in a clearance bin for $1.99.
-
ive been liking the pline flouro ice. very low memory and very strong.have 3lb on my fly reel and will be running 6lb on my walleye combo.plan on trying some 2lb aswell.
-
I didn't get out a lot last year, but the 4# Nanofil on my perch rods worked very well. I hope to find out this year how it holds up to heavy use.

You have to use a leader with the Nanofil right?
-
I don't know that a leader is absolutely necessary, but I use one. Nanofil is very visible.
-
I am a big fan of braided line with a floro leader, but I fish deeper water 25-30' most of the time and I am in a shack.
-
I used nanofil 3# last year a little with no leader and had no problem catching fish! I also wanted to try bionic fluorosilk in 3# but I wanted some feedback before I string it on. I've never used fluorocarbon line before so im not sure if you gotta rig it up differently
-
Flourosilk is great for perch! Works well in cold atleast for me want to try P-line.
-
i run sufix 832 braid to a florocarbon leader.
-
Power Pro with flouro leaders
-
How about seagar flor for a leader?

vicious panfish ice. gonna be hard to sway me to another line.
-
I've got all kinds of stuff. Some Cajun, Vicious, Stren, Sufix, PLine, and some Northland all on different rods. Have no problems catching fish with any of them...for what its worth.
-
Hands down, Power Pro. Have Landed more fish summer and winter with it than anything else. I like having no stretch in the line. That way I can feel the slightest bite.
-
I dig the no-stretch stuff like fireline. Best for the deep water that I like to fish in.
-
Power Pro with flouro leaders
Jigging for perch I use 3lb. Power Pro Braid in red with a 3lb. Berkley flouro leader. Also have used Fireline but the smoke and white colors were hard to see.
-
Currently running 3# PowerPro Ice in Hi-Vis Yellow w/ 3# Asso Micron 3 Fluoro leader... Back to Back Uni knot.
Also straight 2# Gamma Ice fluoro
-
perch line....ande 6 and ande 8....
-
pline flouro ice is one of my favorites....
-
Monofilament.
-
im going to try the 4# trilene XT this year and also continue using my braided lines in my hut!
-
2-3# Vicious Panfish Ice for Perch. Generally in Hi-Viz.
-
Can anyone tell me what the advantages of fluorocarbon besides being less noticeable to fish, have over Berkley XL or other monos?

Less stretch, sinks faster, retains less water.
-
While I agree with the wet line comments, I can't believe no one has suggested my personnel favorite line, , , , a tight one! ;D
-
Tectan Premium 2# test with .003 dia.

2# Seaguar Fluorocarbon
The stuff is tough, supple, and nearly invisible.
-
Berkleyfireline micro ice crystal. Got it on 2 rods, one a frabil 241 36" combo, and an ul 24" spinning reel. Love the stuff. 3lb on both. Doesn't seem to ice up as much, and I've noticed stronger knots.
-

Agree. 2 lb Microice for me when it's deeper than 20'. So much easier to detect strike and set the hook when going deep.
-
Got some fireline crystal coming, been using cheapo basspro 4# flouro that's $2 a spool. Worked just fine. I don't use a shanty and it didn't freeze up so I'm happy. I'm curious why people would choose mono over flouro despite cost? I don't use mono for much these days. Expecting this fireline to be pretty good.
-
I never have liked the fireline. It seemed to get stiff in the cold.
-
Ive been using suffix 3lb ice magic. So far its been my favorite line ive tried. Zero memory and real strong.
-
P-line, always p-line
-
Braided 1 & 2 lb Berkley Fire-Line Micro Crystal has been my ticket for the last few years.
-
Do you come here often ?
-
FIRELINE. Its not a braid, its filament. 3 lb. No memory, freeze ups, coils, twist or tangles. Smallest SPRO barrel swivel. Two feet of flouro, ( 2-8 lb) can be changed out per conditions/species.
-
??? Just wondering if when using 2 or 3# fire line you guys use a small swivel with a piece of mono or you tie directly to the bait use this method for lake erie to help bait from spinning use 8# fire line and 10# mono there didnt no if this would work with smaller line or hurt the presentation. Thanks
-
When I first started using fireline I always went swivel and flouro leader. Now I just tie directly and catch just as many fish. I do only use it in deeper water (+20'). I've gone back to mono and flouro when fishing shallow. Just like the feel of it over fireline shallow. Felt like I sometimes lost fish shallow on hooksets with fireline.
-
4 lb Fireline to barrel swivel to 12' of Seagar 4 lb fluoro.

Fireline freezes. Maybe not in a shanty, but not all of us have that luxury.
