Let it cool.Once engine is cold. Fire it up and let it idle for 30 secs. Open itup wide open again. Adjust if necassary. The trick with the Jiffy's is to tune them during cold (ice fishing) weather.Low speed screw, the one on the left.High speed on the right."The only thing I have to add is when you adjust the low speed you also have to adjust the throttle idle screw on top of the carb, when you adjust the low speed the idle might raise the rpm then you need to back off the idle screw, to get it to idle slower, otherwise the clutch wants to engage and start spinning at idle. You also need 2 people, one to hold it while one does the adjustments. As for additives, i didn't all of last year without issue, I am running stabilizer this year to see if it makes a difference. The biggest improvement on my auger was switching to an NGK brand plug, started easier and ran a bit smoother.
I do have a 3hp Jiffy, the Stealth STX. I wouldn't worry about the gap too much, doesn't make a difference on these really small engines, just run it as it comes out of the box. I Can get the NGK number off my plug this evening when I get home, or if you have yours handy, get the number off whatever brand plug you have now (usually autolite or champion) and google "spark plug cross reference chart", it'll tell you what plug to run from each manufacturer.
Thanks for all your help, I owe you one!!!!!! What part of Alberta you from?
RJ-17LM, or equivalent...set gap at .030”
