would you mount it?
« on: Mar 15, 2014, 06:41 PM »

Was slightly disappointed, thinking it was a true bluegill but after having it examined by taxi he confirmed that it was a cross between a red ear and a gill  --11 1/2"  -- 1.2lbs
Let's hear it.
BTW it was caught on a public lake

is there a story behind it?

I think a 11 1/2" redear is way more common than a bluegill of equal size, so back to my question

if 11 1/2" is common with red ears, and this is a cross breed, I think I'd hold out for a bigger red ear or a real bull of a blue gill. and have this one for dinner

True gill, no doubt it would go on the wall.  True Red, I would wait for a bigger one.  Since it is a cross, I am not sure how big they get (maybe Taxi or Spkplug know), but it is a nice fish for being half gill and half redear!

Nice fish. You have to come up with a good story about catching the fish now. Remember embellishment is they essence of good story telling

If you have the extra cash put it on the wall, if money is tight put it in your belly!

That is a pig!! If you can swing it, I would have it put on a piece of drift wood with enough room for that true 11" bull gill.

I think it would look pretty cool on a start of a fish stringer style mount.

I was lucky enough to see the fish within seconds of being caught and it did not look like a redear. That thing was thick. Mount that thing and put it in the store with the jig in his lip.

Send that picture of you holding it to www.fathead.com and have them make you a 3 by 4ft poster for your wall. You can get it made any size you want and it's a lot cheaper than a mount. Everybody loves the one i have of a 17" black crappie. Nice fish by the way.

I assume you asked because you want to get it mounted, if that is the case you should do it.  I can't imagine it would cost much.   If you catch a bigger once it will only add to your wall.  Regardless if it is a gill/ear hybrid it is a nice fish.

Nice job Joe ! I'm not to big in to gills or red ears but that is a nice one for sure . I think it being a hybrid make it even nicer . I say go for it if you get a big full bred you could mount it with this one and could see the differences and similarities .

That's a good fish alright, and if you want to mount it, I'd go for it, and smile the whole time. Very nice catch!

If it were mine though? I would probably hold out for a bigger one.

I`m thinkin, Whos is the one that gets to look at it and smile about the time he had that day on the ice. Joe
If he wants to have that memory, better believe it. Put it on some drift wood that you can mount another to it later. Nice fish Joe

Yeah, let's see that pig!  I've been to Reelfoot a few times but still don't have a 2 lb'er.
