What are some of the better places to ice fish in Springfield area? I am new to ice fishing so what is a safe thickness for the ice to fish on it? I would also like to know what equipment is essential like an Auger, tipups, tent, etc... Thanks

I dont know how well the ice gets that far down. you will have to get atleast a hand auger a reel or two and a bucket to get started. The more ya fish the more u will find you "need". I usually wait till there is about 4" of good Ice meaning clear but maybe more if not the best lookin i.e. white ice. I dont know where to tell ya to fish but I am sure if there is ice you will find someone fishin it.
