« on: Jan 16, 2008, 07:00 PM »
I read a lot about airplane jigs on the site, but I'm not realy sure what the are or look like.  Could someone post a pic or link of an example?

Thanks,

they are essentially lead head jigs with small rounded "wings" on the sides of the head.  They are made by Northland.  I bought one at Three Rivers in Wasilla and plan on giving it a try for burbot on Big Lake when I get home.

Here is a link to the Northland Tackle site http://www.northlandtackle.com/Category/main.taf?cat=278 you may have to remove the stinger hook depending on the regulations where you are fishing. A lot of lakes are single hook only. They are also available through Janns Netcraft http://www.jannsnetcraft.com/northland-ice-lures/191102.aspx Hope that helps.

Hey Marc,
Airplane jigs are very effective. Be careful you don't use them in two holes that are close together. They plane out under the ice and will get tangled if you have more than one person using them. Also tip them with bait. Makes them more effective.....Good luck on the hard water...........Scott
