Marcum battery down the hole!
« on: Feb 02, 2013, 04:26 PM »
OK guys, need some help here. I was using my Marcum batter for my fishcam and it slipped off the crate and down the hole in about 12 ft of water. I can see it, any advise on how to retrieve it would be greatly appreciated.

Changed my middle name to "You should have been here yesterday".         Remember it's called fishing, not catching.

Drill or cut a bigger hole, swim down and grab it ;D. Strange things happen don't they. Since it is not able to be picked up by a magnet, try something like a dog catchers pole w a noose on the end or a long pole w some type of can or bucket affixed to it that you can scoop it up. Since you can see it this should be easily accomplished. Hope you can get it back one way or the other.

How about a 20' length of black pipe with a clam rake basket on the end ?

An animal control pole or something similar made from a couple sections of PVC would do it. The 12' of water makes it tough. Good luck! Post what you came up with if you get it out.

good old snow roof rake. Usually 16 ft long and have a big blade on end, plus its collapseable.

Mine fell out the last trip but luckily missed the hole.  After you retrieve it, any plans to better secure it in there?  I just pay more to how I cary it.

A long piece of pvc pipe with rope thru it kind like a dog catchers noose.

take some heavy line rod setup, put a heavy spoon or jigging spoon on the braided line, drop down and snag-it and youre done! Now celebrate and buy a new battery!

Do I need to buy a new battery? I understand that it would be dead, but I figured it wold take a charge. It is still sealed.

I picked up a telescopic paint pole and a Frabill bait net. I'll also bring another pole just in case, if needed. Fingers crossed. Duct tape don't fail me now.

Nah, you just need to make another hole over to the side away from the first one to put the water back in.   ;D

Seriously, maybe an extendable tree trimmer pole with a couple good hooks on it might do it.

Use a large magnet from a speaker.....  You can tie a long rope to it..

Also could use a pool cleaning net if you know someone with one.... You will need to make a bigger hole to do this fix

When you do get it out, spend $20 and get another battery. Don't be switching from unit to unit.

Too bad it wasn't a Vex battery   Maybe a treble hook. I had some for salmon snagging in Mich when it was legal. Those would catch anything. Maybe a camera to lower down and finesse a treble to snag the terminals, or the case..New batteries are 20$..mark the location and free dive for it next summer...Or..a length of pvc with a hook or snag..Tough one..

I would like to think  that it will cost just as much to make a device to get your battery back as to just buying a new battery.

Would still want to get.it back. if that battery would rupture the chemicals inside could do very bad things to the fish. i don't want lead poisoning how about you?

I was on a bus and just happened to be sitting on a news paper. This guy came up and asked. "Are you reading that ?"
I said  yes, stood up, turned the page and sat back down.

Valid point, that didn't even cross my mind. Welp, best of luck I would say modify an extended tree saw. It has the length now you just need to make a retreiver.

I just checked the depth by measuring the length from my bobber to the jig and it's closer to 20'. So my plan is to use 2 pole to get down there. after I get the battery, I'll return the poles and net to Walmart. The battery is at least $35 and hopefully the poles will cost nothing.

Say what?? You're going to buy a product, use it, then return it?? Do you do that at restaurants also?? Suck it up. You made a mistake. Time to pay for that mistake.
