Fishing in the southeast and surrounding area

Hey guys just bought an ice auger and a few rods. Living in the southeast, Steinbach area. Would like to know wheres a good spot to go for the the day(1 hour or 2 hour drive doesnt matter), hopefully catch a few. Also what to use on the jigs. Looking for suggestions and opinions. Thanks

The river has slowed down the last couple of weeks, I've read that they are going to start cutting the ice on the river soon,so I'm not sure if it's ok to go on the ice in the area they cut
