Def need to book your rooms early or end up staying in either Saranac or LP.

Or, like REEL fisherman (pun intended), camp out on the ice, like many of us do. This will be year #9 for me.

Unless the weather changes drastically, which it is not supposed to, it should be near perfect conditions!  They are calling for temps of close to 30 so it should be nice.

I will be there with one buddy.I have a ATV.first time fishing this lake. Not asking for spots but is it worth fishing the deep 30ft or just staying in the shallow 5-8ft ?? Thanks

They're aren't any secret spots just pure luck with this many people and machines all over. Personally I like to leave the launch and head to the right to avoid the masses unless that's your thing. Either way be sure to get there and set up your shelter and mark your tip up spots by Friday afternoon if you can. I've been doing the tourney the last ten years and IMO gets better every year.

I'm not sure if the bait shop is still open in town. 3Beagles would know though. If you are able to pick up bait the day before and put an aerator in the bucket I would do that. Fish307 in Lake George has bait and open at 5am Fri/Sat.

Can you sign up the morning of the derby or is it pre register only.  Never fished this tourney but heard many good things.  Where is the weigh station located

Yes you can sign up at the club house in the morning, they open their doors early just for that purpose. The measuring is done at the bottom of the boat launch. A square hole will be cut out in the ice as a temporary holding area for any pike caught and will be later released.

It's definitely a tourney worth fishing. Keep in mind that though not many pike are caught, the prizes, raffles and support from the Tupper Lake Rod & Gun Club and it's volunteers make it well worth it.

Sounds like an all around good time even if no fish are caught.  Everyone I know that has fished it has a great time.

There are 1st/2nd/3rd place winners every hour of the tourney and a lunker of course. I think it seems like less are caught than what are due to the amount of people fishing.

Sign up will be open from noon to 8 p.m. on Friday.  It will reopen at 4 a.m. Saturday morning and will continue.  Sign up will be in the Archery Range at the club.  Drive around (just past the clubhouse), go through the open gate on your right, and drive up to the top parking area.  Archery range will be located just behind the long pistol range building.  The weigh station will be located right on the ice at the lower entrance to the pond.  Please, if you catch a pike, bring it to be weighed in a bucket of water to protect it from freezing as we try to keep them all alive so they can be released.  If a fish is brought in frozen and not still alive it will be disqualified.  Don't risk it.  Thank you.  Mike

You have to sign up for the lunker pool (an extra $10)  But, whoever has the biggest fish in the Lunker Pool will win half of whatever we take in in cash.  Right now, we have 93 entries in the lunker pool, so the pay off could be a nice chunk of jing!  I wouldn't say there are less fish caught, we had close to 200 fish weighed in last year if memory serves me.

From what I know, registration goes until 8pm Friday night and is open saturday morning, not sure what time. Weigh-in station is right off the boat launch will not be able to miss it. Does anyone have a contour map of Simon or a rough sketch of the contours?

For some reason it seems like a contour map for Simon doesn't exist.  I've been trying to track one down with no luck yet. If anyone happens to come upon one please post the link here.

that sportmans guide in Walmart has a map. pretty much is 4-8' with the exception of a deep bowl way out to the right of the boat launch. almost all the way down on the right side of the lake.

The paper I got from the tourney with the entry slip on it, which I am looking at as I write this says "PRE-REGISTRATION ONLY". Sorry. Just trying to help.
