That's when they truly were still hard core. I think they still had morning PT at that point. Honestly I don't know if I could have handled it. The work load on top of the strictness. I handled basic training with no issues but add road design and radial line plot maps to that atmosphere and you truly do have hell. Props to the old school RS alums. You have my admiration.

You must be in some of the same classes I'm in this semester. Most of the 2010 RS class are in the same classes.

I'm RS'94, ESF '96,  and SUNY Albany 2000.  I am teaching Special Education/ Biology. I'm also on our Science dept. I love it. In fact, next week I'll be putting on an ice fishing Demo for our school.

EFB '03.  Now I am stuck in the seasonal world.  Just have to put my time in I guess, something has got to break eventually.  I can't complain, I love what I do, and I feel lucky to actually have a job in the field.  To those looking for a start I suggest getting in touch with the regional fish and wildlife managers and ask about seasonal positions available.  It is a start and will look good on the resume.  Also take every civil service test that even comes close to the field.  You've got to be in it to win it.  It is a highly competitive field, but put your time in and it will pay off.

ESF grad - Paper Science Engineering , Dec. '94
A lot of 'sportsmen' in my program back then.
Lots of trips to Oneida to fish and to Happy Valley and Tully to bowhunt.
Good times.....

Oh yeah, also worked grounds maintenance at the Ranger School in Wanakena for two summers, '92 & '93.

RS '09 surveyor huh?...that limits the number of people you could be...certainly not Pete, Zach? BTW this is Yousey
I'm glad that out of the 12 other surveyors you decided to compare me to PETE! Real nice, your lucky you told me its you or I would have asked if you were the D.O.C.
Did you hear about the polock who went ice fishing . . . and caught 7lbs of Ice?

KAPPA PHI DELTA, Purple Passion, and a rockin good time.

MS, Environmental Science, SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry, Syracuse, 1996
BS, Environmental Science, SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry, Syracuse, 1990
AAS, Environmental Ecological Technology, Paul Smith's College, Paul Smiths, NY, 1987

I have been fortunate to use my education in a job that frequently gets me into the field, often at the front of an electrofishing boat learning about the local honeyholes.

The company often hires staff with a background in ecology/fisheries, and folks can PM me if they are loking for details.

graduated last spring in fisheries, got a job in SE AK over the summer raising coho salmon at a very remote site and heading back up in the spring and hopeing to stay, it's unreal up there

"If fishing is interfering with your business, give up your business."  - Sparse Grey Hackle

"I wait. Now the night flows back, the mighty stillness embraces and includes me; I can see the stars again and the world of starlight. I am twenty miles or more from the nearest fellow human, but instead of loneliness I feel loveliness. Loveliness and a quiet exultation." - Ed Abbey

I worked this summer for the University of Alaska Fairbanks as a research forester/forest tech. I wish I can go back for good, time will tell.
