white collar ice fishing
« on: Mar 14, 2007, 05:54 AM »
seems like most guys i meet out on the ice work construction or in a factory, or something in the blue collar field.  just curious as to how many white collar workers out there are ice fishing.  im going to  be a teacher and am currently in the process of student teaching (about halfway through).  i always tend to get odd looks from my colleauges when i tell them im an ice fishermen.

My biggest problem is running into my students and their fathers while out hunting and fishing. That's why I make sure I stay on their good sides. ;D

I'm a pharmacist.  I keep my icefishing gear in the truck all season and fish whenever I can.  I've been known to head out on the ice in my shoes, work slacks, and leather jacket.  Once I get into the shanty with the heater running everything is good.  I do get some wierd looks heading out on the ice sometimes, though.

Accountant and all my employees think I'm crazy.  :cookoo: I get some wierd looks during early ice.  I usually run at lunch time and check local lakes.  I get out in my shirt and tie with the spud bar to check ice thickness.
Bring on the ice!!!!!!!  <br />

I don't know if I would classify a teacher as white collar.  In my opinon white collar is a professional who does something with the intention of improving business or membership to make more profit.

I work for a CPA as a staff accountant...keep my hunting gear in the car throughout the season and my fishing gear the rest of the year.  I do live in a rural area though, so it's not unusual...though I am the only one actively participating in hunting/fishing in the office.

If ya wanta see people from all walks of life ice-fishin' come to MI, never saw so many people on the ice as this year. I think that's what they were doin' when not standing in the unemployment line. People here are fishin' for food not sport.  ;) ;) :o :o

Used to be that most ice-fishermen I ran into where blue collar but now most are retired or unemployed.  ::) ::)

You are correct.  Here is a textbook version of white collar.

White-collar workers perform tasks which are less "laborious" yet often more highly paid than blue-collar workers, who do manual work. They are salaried professionals (such as some doctors or lawyers), as well as employees in administrative or clerical positions. In some studies, managers are considered as part of the white-collar worker grouping, in others they are not. The name derives from the traditional white, button down shirts worn by workers of such professions. ...

I’m a Scientist for a pharmaceutical company. Not so much a white collar but a white coat. Love my job get to travel all over the world however it can cut into some ice fishing time.  :( Most of the ice-fisherman that I meet are in construction or a type of job which is “slow” in the winter such as landscaper. All the White-collar workers that I know either go skiing in the winter or do “indoor activities” such as diner at a restaurant or movies.  However in the summer the White-collar workers will go fishing but not in the winter because it is too cold for them. Just a different mentality.

That sounds interesting.  My firm doesn't have "drafters" so we all do most of our own CADD work.  The only ones' who don't are the senior guys who still think CADD is done at a "CADD Station".  They haven't caught on yet that AutoCAD can be run from desktops and laptops these days.    ;D

I'm in with the Feds as a Fisheries technologist although am qualified for Wildlife projects as well.  Thank god for our Natural resources!   Couldn't ask for a better job!  Doing what I love and getting paid for it.  As long as the funding comes in, I'm happier than a pig in @#$!. :P
Only have one other friend who Ice fishes and he has moved out west!  I find people are quite fascinated with ice fishing and want to know more about it.  It seems most white collard peeps. are too busy to engage in the sport of ice fishing.
