Fess up...what have you lost down the hole?
« on: Feb 19, 2007, 07:51 AM »
Just curious about everyone else's misfortunes because over the weekend, I lost a pair of Leupold binoculars down through the ice.  Tried for 2 hours to snag them with a bunch of trebles, but no luck (it was too cloudy and deep to see).  Can anyone else make me feel better about it?

Unfortunately, I'm not certified in SCUBA and I'd say 25' is a little deep to snorkel.  Guess I know where my tax refund is going. :(

I have set a spud to a watery grave :'(
My buddy sent his cellphone down a hole the hard way
He dropped it on the ice, went to pick it up, slipped and kicked it (SCORE) right down a hole in 50+ feet of water

My tip up flag did me the favor of nosediving straight into the hole without the bounce this weekend. :(

It seems to me that everything one drops on the ice or in a shack goes down the hole.  Almost like the hole is a magnet, i've lost everything from baits, CLEANED FISH, knives, walkie talkies, lures and other goodies!!

If you think you can find the same hole again, why not pick up a $99.00 camera from harbor freight and go get those binocs with a treble hook and a weight.  I'm sure they were more expensive than $99.00 and then you'll have a camera also.

I did catch a line with a pole and 12" perch that a guy had just lost.  He was happy to get both back.

My camera went swimming last weekend when I reached down to ice a fish for the girlfriend. She said she never saw me move that fast when I dove after it! All the way to my shoulder and caught the little wrist strap by my pinky!!!! Took it apart and dried it out and it still works!!  ;D  :woot:

Good news people. An open bottle of Jack Daniels, minus the one drink you took will slid down the hole, but slow enough so your typical 58 year old male fishing buddy can make the dive and the save! Now why can't that same guy grab that 10 lb walleye that tore off???????

A week ago Sat. I was setting up to fish a pond in southern Iowa, as I was drilling my third hole the bolt that holds the auger to the power head flew out and my auger twirled right on down the hole, I could see it with the Aquq-Vu but didn't have any thing to snag it with. Wed. or Thurs. I'm heading back down,3 1/2 hour drive, and try to get it. I ordered a 150# retrieval magnet but it hasn't came yet so I'm putting together a pole with a cable loop on the end to try to get it. All I could do was stand there with the power head running and watch it go.

It was in about 25' of water and it's a pretty cloudy lake.  Not sure that I could see them anyway.  Wouldn't I need a light too?  How well do those cameras really work?
