Very nice. We are still finding plenty of ice with a little travel too. So good to still be hard water fishing. That's why my stuff never gets put away until i know its over. Right now it aint OVER ;D ;D

gave up on ice, not fishing. ice out Carp  fishing  is a lot like pike fishing. sit and wait and wait. And big ones so close to home, hard to beat

Kevin mentioned that.  Looks like he may actually come laker fishing!  Id be tempted to go for pike if it was early March.  Too close to spawn time so the bite usually sucks!

Thanks ice man, would love to get back up 1 more time to hit Simond. Do you still fish for pike and just release them since the season is closed?

Ice is such a short season and open water is so long I never could understand open water fishing when there is still plenty of ice??

Personal preference like elevatorman stated as well as time.

If I have 3 hours to fish I rather drive 30 minutes each way and fish for 2 hours vs drive 1 hour each way and fish for 1 hour (maybe not every time but most). By all means I enjoy ice fishing far more than any other type of fishing but sometimes time is limited. I have a 16 month old and being a GREAT father is far more exciting to me than chasing fish. This season he should be old enough to make most trips with me so I am very excited. If he cannot out fish me before I get buried, I have failed. And the only way that is possible is to keep him with me on all of my excursions, as my father did with me. Then there is shooting, hunting, gardening, mushroom hunting, spear fishing, wine making, butchering.... etc etc etc.
Just add water.

Most places with a closed season for pike, it would be illegal ti fish for them specifically.  More important is during spawn time you have a solid chance at a skunk.
