who's excited for a warm winter?
« on: Dec 15, 2015, 02:31 PM »
After getting pounded for 2 years straight I think a mild winter is just what some of the smaller lakes need (honeoye, canadice.)

I agree trap, had the boat out the other day and it looks like we'll have at least another three weeks of the on the western fingers, peace and quiet and the whole lake to yourself. Steelhead fishing without gloves is great too just wish we'd get some rain!

Excited....not excited.......neither really. I do enjoy the warm weather more as I age. But, I'd like to get on the ice a few times too.

The boat is stored, but I'm not sayin' anything about my springtime haunts producing crappies and perch.

No sir....there's no fish there :-\

I do my lower unit oil in early fall to make sure I'm not leaking/picking up any water and run my boat till I'm completely iced out then I put it in the warm garage and put her to rest. Way too much good fishing in the fall to miss out on

I can agree, it's been nice this year for warmer weather and getting the outside stuff done for winter. Hell, I've still not winter wrapped up my boat yet.  ;D

As a fish taxidermist I'm actually hoping for business to be slow this winter so I can get caught up. Lots of irons in the fire and walking pneumonia really put me behind this year.  :(
I live in the midwest now but have fond memories of fishing in New England as a kid.

Also very interested to see how a mild winter influences the fishery on lake Ontario, this year was very slow and many are pointing the finger at the harsh winters we've had.

Can't forget about the shore casting bite for eyes in the fall either. Get your waders on and get the stick baits out.

Agree! A lot of lakes get hit pretty hard in the Winter. Late start won't hurt any of them. Fish have been hitting. There should be some good Ice Fishing sales in the next month or so. Saw a picture of a nice walleye that was caught week or so ago....h2l

don't  you  still have  your  little  fly fishing  pontoon boat?

Nah, sold it off at my garage sale last spring . Got what I paid for it. I liked it, but it didn't track very well on flat water and I didn't have anyone to run rivers with. So it ended up collecting a lot of dust. Thought about a kayak, might find a used one this spring and see if  it's something I'll use more.

Mostly, I like wading the streams and putting around in my boat.

A few years ago, I took my boat out on New Years day....looking like another coming up for this year unless something changes drastically with the weather. Excited? Not hardly....I can't wait to walk on the ice again!

I'll take this weather for as long as it can last, I'd like to be out on erei early spring with the boat (still out now) and don't mind missing the sub zero Temps while working outside.

mild winter no biggie just got to adapt  to the fishing like the last time...  it is kind of a blessing cause my dad I don't have to shovel his snow and mine so it is a blessing... plus don't got to listen to the complaining from him just on here  cause there is no ice ...lol's  there is still fishing so drag the old garbage can aluminum boat out and get fishing lol's! it maybe elbow to elbow but get out and get tons of pictures! you will thank me for mentioning it now....
