Big Blue in Mason City
« on: Feb 03, 2012, 03:23 PM »
I was wondering if anyone knows how often they stock that West pit with fish? They cancelled the trout stocking in the main pit this winter cause of bad ice. But do they regularly stock other species???

Think the trout stocking may be on yet for Feb 4th?  I know they stocked catfish in there years back.  Got a 13lb channel out of there 4 or 5 years ago.  Theres Gills,Largies,Crappies,Perch and Northerns in there .  Ice should be really iffy there now fished it about a week and a half ago it wasnt in good shape then.

Kimt is where they said the DNR is canceling it but maybe they changed that.
Not sure if your talking about the west side of the road but I fished there Tuesday and yesterday and there was still 7 inches of good ice on the west side. Came home with 6 big gills 1 nice perch and a 13inch largemouth last night (first bass through the ice so I kept it). Gotta say I had more fun there then I have been at clear lake.

Think they have an advisory for consuming fish out of the west pit (dark pit).  I know they had a glue spill in there a few years back.  Pretty scuzzy stormwater flows into it spring and summer.  Just a heads up

Haha.

I should also mention that there were little white worms in some of the fillets that I picked out. Fried up a few of the gills last night for myself and I haven't got sick yet... Lol

No, but don't be surprised if you have a glow to you after consuming them.  ;D
