What is the word on Eagle Point Campground? Is the gate open there? Also, how was the weekend up there? Looks like a lot of people were out.

Guys have been fishing Eagle Point for about a week, gate is still closed. North end 9-10" ice, lots of decent Lakers being caught.  Early ice has been good. Ice really varies, had a friend who lives half way to the narrows say ice went from 9-3" real quick. This weekend someone broke thru off Schroon Manor, FD was called, but canceled as the guy got out.  As usual, guys look at the number of people behind Stewarts, and foolishly assume the entire lake is safe. IT IS NOT!

Limited parking.  People dont want to talk about that online.

Do a lot of fishing fridays alone and like to get things figured out for the weekend when I go with others. I love trying new areas so I’m always asking for help to get to places. I’ve fished probably 20 different bodies of water this year

If you take a ride the parking area avails itself easily.  Aka you wont miss it.

On Monday there was 8-10 inches on the white ice, and 5-6 inches on the black ice.

Keep an eye on lake level.  With the snow melt you can get on in the morning and may came back to find the edges all wet, and 25 ft from shore!

How is the ice holding up?  We have a trip to Friends Lake starting Friday.  Should I bring my plank?

Thanks for the info on Friends.  May try other places up there too.  Maybe loon, paradox, or Schroon.

This was just posted this morning here in Schroon Lake from a family that has lived on and ice fished Schroon for generations.  "PSA to all fisherman on schroon lake, the ice is shot, 10 inches of ice just gave way under my friends four wheeler. Everyone is safe bu shaken up. Thus rain is going to ruin it further, make smart decisions."

The psa would hsve been funnier if it simply stated "dont be dumb like we were"

How's the snowmelt Tony?  My bigger concern was the lake rising.

The wheelers out of ice moral of this story no matter how long you lived on a lake the ice is never uniform n you always have room to learn

We didn't get the heavy rain that was predicted and we only had one night that stayed above freezing, the rest froze up every night, so snowmelt has been slow. Edges still look ok from what I see from in town. Tonight will be in the teens so things should button up, but I wouldn't be bringing any machines out there for the next few days. Never seen the lake freeze this unevenly as this year.
