Title: smelt
Post by: mudchuck on Mar 01, 2018, 08:29 AM
Caught these at the Rez.
Sent this pic to F&W.
Unusual to catch a smelt that big in that body of water.
Hope the bucket biologists are not hard at work transplanting from Bomo...

Mudchuck- you ever find worms in The fish from the Rez? Last few times I kept fish outta there they weren't looking very good. Some perch even had red worms about an inch long. Most still had the typical white parasites. Made me stop fishing there... JW thanks

How big was it? It was probably just one that was lucky enough to escape the jaws of all the predators; well, until you came along anyways. Haha. The balance of food/predators/habitat control the average size of the fish. Not sure what the point of moving fish from Bomoseen into there would be, but I bet that that strain would end up being about the same size of the others in the next generation on.

It's pretty common to catch the larger ones this time of year there.

At one time you could, but not anymore. Talked to a biologist about it once. Said a contributing factor was people getting really territorial and causing fights or something like that...
