Front or Rear Auger mount??
« on: Nov 29, 2015, 06:12 PM »
Ive got a nice 2 up snowmobile, and want to put a mount on it for my new ION.  I'll be pulling my Yukon, and want to put an auger mount on my sled.  My thinking is to put something on the back to the auger sits on the back of the sled/mount with the bottom of the auger pointing straight behind me.  Ive seen some like this, and think I can craft something to accomplish this, and hold a couple of buckets as well....Is there any inherent advantage to mounting an auger on the front?  I really dont want to have to modify the sled itself.....thoughts?

The best thing about having the auger on the front is it's always in view.. That way you'd see if it you forgot it or it was about to fall off.. I've heard plenty of stories of people who've lost things on the ice that fell off the back of an atv or snowmobile..

It's less likely to get coated with snow and slush up front. Ion's don't like getting wet.

I like having the weight on the front of my ATV for traction purposes.

I put mine in front so I can see it in case it comes loose. As the others have stated.

I would stick with a front mount or some kind, either make one or buy one. The snow off of the back of an ATV or snowmobile can give you a lot of grief when your auger gets covered with snow and froze. Unless you have a way to cover the auger.
