What gets you to the Ice?
« on: Jan 07, 2010, 09:11 AM »
Ok it is really slow here at work today.  Its snowing and no one buys stuff in the crappy weather.  So I thought I would open a can of worms...what Kind of truck (or other car) do you drive to get to the ice and why?  I usually try to drive a reg cab long box truck because then I don't have to haul alot of ppl around and I can close my tailgate with the wheeler in it.
If you want a country run by religion....Move to Iran.

I got all the bases covered, I drive either a Dodge Quad Cab or a Ford Expedition and my son in law drives a Chevy extended. At least I have the important bases covered ;D

A Mazda Protege...  Jet Sled, auger and gear fit in it fine and I cruise to the lakes getting a nice 35mpg.  Rather by jigs than gasoline!

The Durango tows my trailer with the Polaris Sportsman and Yukon on it.  I have only fished one lake I could not get on with the wheeler.  The hill is too steep for any wheeler to make it up.

Silverado crew cab, but it's getting pretty old having to drag fords out of ditches.  Tow rope is getting a workout.

I drive a skidoo scandic suv picked out and carbided for when there's snow on the lake. When there isnt any snow on the lake, I use my Cam am 800 ltd atv with chains on the front and back.
Both are real work horses. Both only really used for ice fishing.

Looking into a utv next year with a heated cab and plow set up to add to my collection. Debating between chains or tracks.

I think I may have a problem.....or not.

JIGGIN.

I hear ya. I had my F250 in the shop last week because it wasn't running right. I evidently sucked up a couple of Chevys and they were still stuck in the breather. Don't know why it didn't just spit them out the tailpipe.  ;D ;)

Ha-Ha  My crew would look like a clown troop in that car. Will it pull a 20' trailer loaded with atv's and sno sleds?   ;D

Just another fish story.

I can say it, but don't believe it. You might get 35 if you keep on the icy road that far.
