Big al not quite. I got a few on Monday and released 1 (on accident). There's 1 left! I say we hold a derby to see who can catch it!

Hey guys,
I'm coming to the area to see my girlfriend's mom this weekend. I'm hoping to sneak out Sunday morning to fish for a couple hours.
I don't expect you to give up your favorite spots, but can you tell me the best place to park if I don't have a 4wd. I have a sled and don't mind walking a bit to get to a decent spot.
Thanks in advance.

BTW, If any of you are ever down in the Westchester/Putnam area and want to get on some nice Browns, shoot me a PM and I'll get you hooked up.

George

I heard the water level is up and the ice is floating at the moment, can’t confirm as I haven’t seen it first hand though.

If that is the case, and it is not fishable this weekend, any suggestions for other bodies of water near Edicott?

You are more likely to catch an alligator than a crappie

Looks like the water level is up almost 3'.  I planned on taking a trip over the hill on Sunday.

I’m sure we will be back on before ice out, but I have a hard time believing the derby will be on.

I took a drive out to Dorchester park Friday afternoon. Didn't see any open areas but shoreline had water around. So getting on the ice was not possible. They are dumping a lot of water out of the lake so hopefully the lake will go back down and we can get back on in a short time.

Taking a trip to check the ice and water level shortly hopefully the cold weather and wind has brought the wind-chill down enough that we may be able to fish Sunday or Monday will update soon as long as they have got the water level down in the lake shore ice should start freezing up... But I can't see them having the Derby with loosing all the shore Ice a week before thousands hit the ice seems like a big liability issue but crazier things have happened

I talked to a guy who is a member of the club who puts on the derby. He said a decision will be made on Monday. They believe the ice may be fine but the shoreline must be good. Right now it's not. They need to be able to drive vehicles out on the ice for set up and such. The bridge on North end of lake is currently closed due to the high water. Let's all hope for the best and wait until Monday and see what happens.

It's most definitely fishable I'm here now just talked to a guy with a four wheeler on the ice said ice is still strong but water clarity is horrible out of 20 guys they have only marked four fish and haven't caught any and they all are getting on at Dorchester I'm on the other side by the seasonal and it is unsafe to get on and the road is barricaded off but I'm heading home and may give it a try tonight hope this helps buy there's 15 shanty's I can count right now so it's fishable just not ideal conditions

I took my crazy X girlfriend out for a few hours. There is 13"-14" of fine ice. If cancelled it's because of the refrozen mess left behind where the creek comes in. They could rope it off and have the derby with no issues. One 17" Walleye and a few misses is what I managed

There was refroze stuff left on ice for last year's derby. We were set up  just off it. Lots of big ice chunks were around. Show went on anyways. Let's hope it does again.  ;D
