What date do you think you will be drilling that first hole in the ice. Last year for me it was Dec. 14th cause I got a late start.

this year I'm hoping for something before the 10th of December here in the Ames Area.

Big Creek was 41 degrees this morning.

Judging by the extended forecast and the average temperatures, December 4th.

Then I had to return back home for the long wait for the ice.

Yep that was this year.

Went to Alaska to See My Son,Daughterinlaw and My two Grandsons.seemed like we just got there and then had to go home again.

And it was GREAT getting to see them and then get onto the ice again.

Its gonna be later than we all originally hoped. I'd say December 18th.

I agree mother nature isnt on our side this year. Im going with Dec. 6th. I could go drill a hole now but theres only 2 inches on my area.
And warmer in the forecast.

I Don't Even Have My Dock Taken Out Yet...

I won't put the cover on the boat until the middle of December, I bet... Walleye are still on the feed and the Crappie are within casting range of the front yard.

Local ponds had skim ice on them as I drove to work this morning, but I think the bigger and deeper lakes will be quite awhile yet. Depends on a lotta' things, I guess...

I, for one, will troll from a boat in ski gear if needed...

Holes were drilled on a pond in NW Iowa today. I'm thinking about punching a hole on West O on Sat just to say I did.

The 10 day forecast for central Iowa doesn't give me much hope for the near future. Highs at 40 or above...lows in the upper 20's. That certainly won't make ice. I am hoping for something around December 15.

Make it November 22nd at 8 am I drilled my first holes.
I couldnt wait any longer so I woke up early and checked some ice. Found darn near 3 inches on a super secret spot. So yeh I'm fishing today. FISHING ON THE HARD STUFF AT THAT!

I'll post pics if I get anything decent.

im guessing by the looks of the ponds ive been duck hunting on ill be out by the 15th or so here in central iowa. the ponds have been froze on and off but the pond i fish dont get any wind and ive broke up to 1.5 inches of ice just to set deeks. give me 3 good inches and im gone. cant wait miss living in minnesota. thats for sure.

We drilled on Corny and Morse 11/22 and had 3 inches or so. Fished for awhile but didnt end up with anything great. Drilled throu about 3.5 on Clear this morning, its not far off.

Dont get overly confident. The ice wasnt great, needed a few more good nights for me to feel safe. We fished for awhile, but when we walked off it was 40 degrees, and I see todays high is close to 45 up there, may want to give it til net week. Although I see a few reports on this site, those locals may know the lake a little better than me.

Yep were in a heat wave right now. Dont come north stay home the fish arent biting anyways.
