Went out yesterday with a Clam Nanook Thermal. 2 inches of slush and 1 inch of snow on the ice base. Went 25 feet and the Clam weighed a ton from all the ice and slaush built up under the sled. Any suggestions for preventing that and keeping the bottom clear?

A guy I know was having the same problem. He took a couple of those kids plastic sleds that roll up, drilled some holes in them to zip tie them together & set his shelter on that while in transit. When he set the shelter on it he let the excess roll up on the end he pulled from & ran his tow rope through the sled there. Seemed to work pretty well & it couldn't have cost more than $10.
Only other advice would be to build yourself a "Smitty Sled" to get your shelter up off the hardwater surface. http://www.iceshanty.com/ice_fishing/index.php?topic=103927.0
Goog luck to ya & keep us posted !!

You can put a few coats of car wax on it but if you drag it across anything other than the snow or ice it'll wear down the wax. A lot of guys just make a smitty sled and put the shelter on top. The advantage to that is there's far less surface area for the slush, snow, and ice and ice to build up on and it's a lot easier to pull.
