Smitty Build
« on: Feb 11, 2020, 09:16 PM »
Thinking about building a smitty sled with either 1/2' or 3/4' conduit rather than PVC.
Ill use a Contico rigid storage box for my supplies build in a set of u shaped brackets under the box area to slide my hub shelter in then I figured grab a set of the fork auger mounts sold UTVs to attach to the top of the box... any thoughts suggestions etc...

Conduit works great. Built one out of it, can use the 90s for for corners, just took out the screws  and used rivets instead, decked it with some 1/4" plywood. Was nice and light.

Was a bit oversize, but held all my gear and then some. Pvc is light, but won't stand up to the cold.

One of the great functions of the Smitty ..is its ability to be broken down ..both for storage and transport .

I was considering PVC for my next smitty. Guess I have to rethink that. Is the issue dealing with the cold?

I'll 2nd the breakdown ability.  I can keep the cover on my truck bed and still get my 2-man clam flip-over, 3 buckets and the broke down smitty along side.  If I had a solid smitty there would be no room.  I 2nd the break down feature.

X2. It's what separates itself from other sled builds.

It's not a Smitty if it won't break down, just another sled.
