Well got out to Verona Lake last weekend and it was not very productive. However had a great time on the ice with my long time fishing buddy Jerry. Jerrry and I have been fishing together for 31 consecutive years. I have to say that having the side-by-side sure makes life a lot easier going out on the ice.  Hopefully will get a couple more days in fishing before the ice starts to get less safe.

Tight lines and be safe out there!

The ice isnt gone yet guys but it is going faster than I hoped, got last night on a search mission and found enough for a good feed! Verona area, cant give it all away, just be careful of shorelines most importantly!

Well Ice Anglers, it is getting closer to that time of year when we can get out on the hardwater and start the hunt for those leviathans that have been resting for a few weeks. Although there is not enough ice to head out now, we will keep our fingers crossed. Remember to check the ice thickness before you venture out.

Tight lines to all!

Well Kingston area ice anglers, I hope that the holidays have been good to you. This year I received an ice auger case for mounting on our side by side making for easier transport out onto the hardwater. An amazing gift!

Hopefully the cold weather will remain and we can build up a decent layer of ice to at least walk out and start our piscatorial hunting efforts.

Stay safe, stay healthy and tight lines to all!

A little ice, the right equipment and teamwork is all that is needed to land the big one!

It is all in the equipment....
May your tip-up spool while your flag raises with hopes of landing the big one.

I was on Verona lake on Sunday.  shoreline is thin, 3" of good ice off water street.  A couple nice pike came at about 4:00 pm.

I went for a look at 2nd Depot, didn't look safe, no tracks, and I've never fished it before.

1st Depot had sled tracks and fresh holes on it but I didn't risk it myself.

Hoping to find some walleye on the back lakes on Saturday.  Anyone else going out?

Ryan

Thanks for the ice reports everyone. I’m near Westport and will check out Wolfe and Sand tomorrow if I have a chance. Will report back here. Nice to see the nights are getting cold. 👍

Checked out Wolfe today and still open water. Ice starting to form near the Southwest corner but still too early.  Sand lake in Westport has ice. Someone has a pop up close to shore by the beach.

Didn't make it out to Verona or Collins, had a family member pass suddenly so I wasn't feeling it.

Will be going out somewhere this week after work once or twice.

I've been working in Belleville for the last few weeks so I have headed north towards Kaladar for my ice fishing after work, found a small lake with good ice and just full of crappie so I might head back there. I won't name said lake but if nobody has found safe ice around Kingston area it could be worth your time to head Kaladar direction.

I’m going to take a look at fifth depot this morning, try it if the ice is good.

Plan b is second depot. Third is back to Verona. Need to find some back country walleye.

Is there an access point to elbow lake?

5th Lake had generally good ice off the boat ramp. It varied between 3-6” of black ice. Only 3” close to shorelines and along a big pressure crack in the middle that convinced me to alter my destination.  A braver group traversed it without issue later in the day. Lots of people out there today but the fishing was pretty slow by all accounts. Only 1 pike for me.

25+ holes in Verona last night didn't mark a single fish. I can say I fished it but I likely won't be back.

Hi everyone!
This is my first winter living in Kingston, as I moved here for school. Appreciate all the helpful tips on this thread to get me started in the area. Hoping someone can point me in the best direction to buy pinheads and shiners since many shops are closed right now. Thanks!

Hey Anglerholic, welcome to the area.  There's a bait shop in Battersea, Mark's (Catch-All) Live Bait at Battersea Road and Noble Lane.  They are open.

Sunday was quite busy on Verona Lake. Quite a few anglers out and a number of people making ice rinks in the middle of the lake. Snowmobiles and side-by-sides and ATVs running up and down the lake. With all the noise I was surprised to see the fish even show up. They were biting short yesterday so the key to success was small baits/hooks. There was 9” of good ice on the lake but the weekends are becoming busy with the number of people heading out. May have to start fishing Verona Lake during the week.

Anyway, tight lines to all and stay safe on the lake!

I was on verona the previous weekend. Ended up catching some perch, a small pike, and a walleye on the Saturday. Tried a couple different spots the following day and didn't even mark a fish over 4 hours. Like Don said, minimum 7" of good ice everywhere I tried.

Braved the cold weather and went out on loughborough this past weekend. I encountered 4-5" of good, clear ice. Marked ~15 fish on the Saturday afternoon but none would commit. Talked to guys who caught a big laker in the morning hours but they seemed to have the same issue with getting bites. Went to the same area yesterday and marked 1 fish in 5 hours.

Going to be heading out a few different days next week. Going to be fishing around Verona/Parham/Seeleys bay ish area!! Not concrete plans yet just a couple of target species in mind! Anyone who is looking to get out next week and wants some company, give me a holler. I have some good spots with safe ice!

Good luck MattPike. I will be at Verona Lake tomorrow and going to try a couple of different spots away from the crowds. The ice is good and the fish are awaiting some nice minnows! Hahaha!

Had a great afternoon on Verona Lake yesterday. Caught over a dozen perch and some pike. Ended up fishing away from the crowded sections in an area we have never fished during the winter. A good 12" of ice.

Stay safe and tight lines!
