2016 MN Ice Reporting
« on: Dec 05, 2016, 05:44 PM »
So I've noticed there hasn't been a ton of ice reporting done on this site for MN ice conditions.  I will do my best to report on every lake I hit early ice.  I know I rely on other people's reports to feel confident on going on the hardwater, especially on lakes I am not familiar with.  I'm hoping we can generate a little more activity this year.

PS....I know for a fact certain people are on ice in Ely........So there IS ice in the state.... ;D

Let's see those reports the next few weeks.

I was at Upper Red yesterday, there's ice about 80 yards out. With the temp drop coming Wednesday, it should be fishable inside of 2 weeks.

I along with Doc rely on "ice reports" and will do my part in reporting early ice conditions in the south central

Tight lines and be safe not a statistic.

I would advise checking web cams . Bowstring shores resort. Lakewood lodge sand lake . I checked some smaller lakes Saturday a couple were capped but none were fishable . As of today we have had two snowfalls and there is more on the way. Not good.

I was out on Cross Lake in Pine City. There was a good 3-4 inches on the east side of the lake, south of the dam. I was about 50 yds out from shore

checked a few of the wright county lakes found mostly 4 to 4 1/2 inches right off shore. there is one lake that had 6 inches at shore and 4 1/2 out over the one crappie area. so with that I am hoping to start my ice season like Friday or Sunday. by then it should gain another inch or so.

I've heard there's people out there -- no surprise -- but nothing about fish catches or ice thickness.

Guys I appreciate the activity here but the reports should be done in the MN reports section of the forum not on this specific thread. That way other who are searching for reports can find them easier. There are specific regions to enter your reports in. Thanks again for the reports though.

Had 8 inches to less than 4 out on Beebe outside of St Micheal.  A lot of slush on the ice near some weedy spots.

SW metro last night.  I was on a small lake here and about 5 inches of ice.  Plenty of slush to be had.  There is a lot of weight on what ice there is between the snow and the slush.

Saw two guys on Wayzata bay today with 4 wheelers.  That is borderline stupid if you ask me.

Ive been using it for the past couple of weeks.  Seems to work just fine.  It all depends on user reports so I would only use it as a reference tool.  Nice to get a rough estimate of what the ice is.

I've been hopping around the Hastings area this week and most places I've fished have had 7-9".  Plenty for me to feel comfortable walking out to and putting up my hub shack.

Thinking of heading up to White Bear Lake tomorrow or this weekend...if anyone has been out there recently, I'd appreciate an ice report before making the drive from Hudson.  @)

The rain definitely helped.  Lots of a good solid ice instead of slush.  I was out on Forest Lake last Friday and had 7 inches of clear ice everywhere I went on lake 1.  Now that we finally have good ice I want the snow back so I can use my snowmobile.  Should build a good amount of ice this week also.
