There are probably guys who will post pics for you and there is a type of pickerel called a Grass Pickerel, but most are what is called chain pickerel because they have a distinctive chain in dark green around there lighter colored bodies. Pike have rows of white dots in their dark green upper bodies. Then of course you have your muskies and Tiger muskies, etc., etc. Once you see them side by side you will never mistake them again.....

You can read up here, but look around the site and you'll see a lot of different pictures.

Here is a pic I took earlier this year of the 2 side by side, looks like a good spot for it here in this thread.

Top is a Pickerel , bottom is a Pike

there are many ways to tell apart pike vs pickerel, from scales on the cheek to mandibular pores. but the easiest way for a newbie is to look for the black vertical bar underneath the pickerel's eye. hope this helps  ;)

Identification is easy, pike are the ones you see people releasing back down the hole or keeping, pickeral are the ones left on the ice for the eagles. :woot:

Come on CAPT I hate to hear fish being left on ice. U know people are going to talk about it. I personally like to eat pickerel. Please I am not trying to start a debate so please don't get angry.
