I suggest pulling the plug, spraying a little fogger, empty the old fuel and store
in your basement. I have 20 years into a jiffy and still starts on 3rd or 4th pull.

I say switch to a cordless drill attachment and use a 6" hand auger and be done with the heavy loud slow drilling thing, or at least that is what my brother and I did. Nomore lugging around the heavy auger and no more smelling like gas.

Wups...  What's the best remedy for if you didn't do this?

If it won't start or needle valve is sticking take the carbreture apart. Rinse diaphrams in gas and sand the needle valve with fine sand paper.
