How to night fish
« on: Feb 04, 2014, 05:04 PM »
I need advise , I've never ice fished at night before. I tried twice with no result. I used a regular 1/64 jig with a Berkley 1" fry luma glow and then a small glow jig with a chartreuse translucent soft body.any info will be extremely appreciated thanks.

Do you have a flasher or sonar?

I would try a chuck on worm, spike, etc on a single hook of course.  With a flasher I find perch and crappie to be close to the bottom and I have to draw them up.  Drop your jig all the way down, bounce it off the bottom a couple of times and bring it up a couple of feet.  I also find a spring bobber to help out a bit.
A watched lake never freezes.

Look at a lake depth map. That will give you an idea of where to start. Then I would drill a bunch of holes, fishing the entire water column at each hole. Hop from hole to hole if you're not getting bites. You will find them eventually.  What species are you trying to catch?

Yeah, what fish are you after? Some are more active at night than others. Crappie, for example, tend to bite well at night... but perch not as much.
