How do you spend time in the "off season?"
« on: Mar 29, 2007, 04:20 PM »
What I'm getting at is, I'm sure most of us open water fish, but what else do you do in the off season or hobbies do you have?  I love to ride the motorcycle, hike, swim, travel etc.  Anyone else out there ride?

The employment of effort, hard work, time, and energy put in locating fish will offend noone.

usually a little open water fishing (never go as much though as I would during the winter).  Going to try and find a summer hockey league this year...   drinking some beers...  that's about it..

Well the walleye will spawn here in a matter of a few more days and Ill go try to catcha few off the dam here.  I dont have a boat and I dont hardly fish at all in the summertime.  I love to play fastpitch softball and since our son was born I dont have as much time to play or fish like I used to.  So most of the time when i get a chance to do anything I usually choose  a fastpitch tourney over going fishing.  So there is my main summertime hobby.  That and waiting for the water to get hard again.

Fishing should be the exercise of your skills- and its rewards the places it brings you to

Skipper I hate to even think about the lawn.  I cut my back yard up pretty good taking care of the Snowmobile trailer.  I may need to make a trip to Florida to get my Uncles wheel chair,by the time I get back and plant the garden and prep the boat it will be Walleye season.

Aside from fishing and yelling at the kids, the main summer pastime is spending time with my old Buicks - http://www.mts.net/~dthille/buicks.html.

This summer, I'll be driving the '66 Wildcat to the Seattle area for the Buick Club of America national meet...then down the Oregon coast to visit relatives.

Like to fish in the summer but most of my summer gets eaten up by work (I'm a Park Ranger and work funky hours)  Also love to do some kayaking and camping when I can find time.  Fall has me spending lots of time at hunting camp in search of birds and deer.

I work, fish and hunt.  And it great that my summer work is fishing, as a guide at a fly-in lodge, the best job I've ever had.  :)

I have no 'off-season'.  Ice fishing season, salmon/trout season, baseball season (I coach), turkey season, bass season, striper season, bowhunting season, basketball season (I coach), muzzleloader season, rifle season and back to ice fishing season. It's a vicious cycle.  Some teacher told me when I was a kid there were only 4 seasons, she was an idiot  ;D

I ride my bicycle about 3,000 miles each year.  To date I only have 2,810 more miles  to ride until I hit my goal!  I also fish the Allegheny River in PA for small mouth and walleye and, when invited, anywhere on Lake Erie.  Then about October 1st, I begin purchasing ice fishing equipment and supplies that I already have too much of. ;D

Spend most of my days conducting research on Juvenile Atlantic Salmon.  When I'm not working, I'm fishing for the adults, Smallmouth fishing and gambling.  Do a little duck and Ruffed Grouse hunting in the fall. Back to the ice in Jan.

I ride my Harley...  a lot!  Love traveling to the Adirondacks & the New England states on the weekends on the bike.  When I'm not riding I'm cutting the grass, which I hate.  Hiking & backpacking I try and fit in whenever I can.  Do a lot of pistol shooting, I have my own range up in the woods.  Don't do much summer fishing, much prefer ice fishing, about the only time I take the boat out is when my GF starts complaining she wants to go fishing - she likes summer fishing more than I do, I'll take her fishing several times and let her know I"m not enjoying myself.  She usually stops asking after that.
4 of my friends  have Harleys and my wife said I could buy one also, all I would need to do is sell my quad, snowmobile, and boat.

My daddy always told me to never have more grass than one wife can cut... ;D ;D

Has the rain a father?
Or who has begotten the drops of dew?
From whose womb comes the ice?
And the frost from heaven, who gives it birth?
By the breath of God ice is given and the broad waters are frozen.
The waters harden like stone and the surface of the deep is frozen.

I spend the summers working construction while I live at the cottage all summer. It's not bad to just jump in the lake at work to cool off ;D I also play baseball to stay in shape for my university team and drink way to much booze.
pour me another one, I'm finished with the other one
