He was my brother, my lifetime hunting buddy. He was the best bowhunter that I ever knew. He was an excellent and avid angler as well, an outdoors lover if there ever was one. He was one of the best swim coaches in any of the states that he ever coached, lately in Virginia. He coached for the kids, bringing the best out in them, a great coach technician, and a wonderful role model. He graduated from Auburn University after swimming for 4 years on their varsity swim team with a degree in business specializing in HR. He had several positions in that area and performed excellently and could have taken that career route but instead chose to coach swimming. The pay was poor in that profession, but the rewards were great. He was paid with gratitude, not money, knowing that he was touching the lives of many of our youth. He was a great man, and a great brother. He passed away yesterday afternoon at the young age of 36 suddenly of heart failure while coaching on deck during a swim meet in Annapolis Maryland, doing what he loved to do. He was in tip top shape and in my mind would have been the last person I could ever imagine this happening to.
I have a hole in my heart now and miss him so much. Life is not fair. Here is a great hunt of his that he shared with us:

Man, I feel for you. I lost my father to a heart attack this past February, he was only 56. I can't imagine losing a family member, let alone a brother at such a young age like 36. And sounds like he was physically fit as well. That makes it all the more jolting. My sincerest condolances to you and your family.
-
Wow Kevin I am not sure what to say, but I am very sorry to hear of your loss. Such a young age and sometimes life doesn't seem fair. God has a plan for him for taking him so young.

Kevin
This is a sad day for all of us to hear about the loss of your brother. I don't think anything we say can fill the void that he has left in his passing. A long time ago I was told by a priest that the Lord picks the prettiest flowers first. Hard to say that about a man but yet I know how close you two were and of all that he did for the kids in swimming. I remember chatting with Kyle a few times on Chat here and he will be truly missed by many. God Bless you and your family and keep the faith we are always here with an open ear if you need it.

Kevin and Family,
The shock and loss of your brother Kyle cannot be put into words. I am so sorry for you and your family. Kyles passing leaves a huge void for your family, his swimming family, and his outdoors family. I will always cherish the times I have chatted with him. Kyle actually gave me a small bit of courage in making a move south. Our conversations about his southern living eased my mind about moving south. Prayers and thoughts are the very least we can do. Please accept our heartfelt sympathy in the passing of your wonderful brother, Kyle.

Thank you all so very much, you all are wonderful.
Kyle's service yesterday went very well with about 200 people in attendance. My sister and I scanned about 260 pictures from his entire life and put together a slide show that aired the entire time. The pastor allowed us to play some of his favorite music before and after the service. One of the songs that was Kyle's favorite as a boy was Deep Purple's "Smoke on the Water". Afterwards, the service began and the pastor noted that this was probably the first time that song has ever been played in church. After his remembrance and prayers, he solicited the people in attendance to come up and tell a "Kyle Story". After about 20 people or so came up to speak, he had to stop them from coming up and end the service or it would have gone on for hours and they had another church event to get ready for.
That service plus all of the emails, PMs, phone calls, cards, and warm responses on this thread really have helped me and my family to get through this week. Thank you all again from me and my family.

Im a greatly saddened and shocked ,to hear about your loss Kevin. I know you are going through a tough time. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Its odd on how small of a world it is. When I found out your brother, and sister went to school with me I was surprised. I recall chatting online with your brother- talking about the people and teachers we knew, its was great, and brought back alot of memories. Seeing the pics of his Musky from the Potomac, I knew he had the fishing fever. He also talked about us(including you )of one day getting out on Deep Creek and doing some ice fishing. I hope we get to honor that in some form one day. Please give my condolonces to your sister as well.

It's hard to belevie it's almost been a year since Kyle's passing...still sadly missed by his IS family . Hope yor family is doing well Fatboy!
-
Hi all.
I want to apologize for my last post to Genz Man. He's a buddy of mine and I got mixed up thinking it was a PM and a response to him in that format. LOL, I didn't mean for it to go public. He's a good guy and was also close to Kyle and took things hard. He's OK and will be back. I deleted that post because it wasn't useful or any good for this site.
Thank you all for your kind words. Thursday, 12/9/08, was a year to the day since Kyle passed away. There isn't a day that goes by that I don't miss him. Some are easier to deal with than others, as would be expected. I was fortunate to talk to him the night before he passed, and all I can say about that was that he was happy. I also got to see him that Thanksgiving and was the last time that we were together, and each Thanksgiving I'll remember that. We had a great time, as always.
I was going to try and post something on here (pics, etc.), but I just can't seem to pull it all together this year. Next year, maybe. Still, life is short. If you care about people, let them know it now.
Yet, life is eternal. I'll see him again some day. Kyle had a passion for walleye fishing and always sought to find the bigger fish through the ice. I've always been a panfisherman, but I think that I'm going to target walleyes, bass, etc. more with him in mind.
Good luck and be safe on the ice this year!
-
FatBoy, I followed this post since you started it and made us aware last year. Your posts as well as all of those from our fellow members here at IS were heartfelt and sincere. I know a year hasnt made it much easier to deal with your loss and I just wanted to take a minute to let you know, I as well as others here still hold you in our prayers. When you lose a brother your heart is torn so badly that a year nor ten years will likely make it much easier when you think about him. Its good to know you take your memories of him with you out on the ice. As he looks down on you, there is nothing that could make him happier than to see his brother out there having all that fun, and yet is still thinking of him with each fish you catch. His memory lives on with each hole you drill and I think he wouldnt have it any other way. Good luck this year and may this Christmas season find you and your family holding his memory close to you all. Reading your posts has made all of us reflect on how fragile life is and how dear our family and friends are to us. Thank You for sharing your thoughts even though it isnt always easy. ISOP
