Location location location?
« on: Jan 02, 2004, 08:19 PM »
I fish the backwaters of the Mississippi a lot and find it hard to locate the big pike.  I have tried shallow areas and deeper areas with all different types of cover.  It seems I am just in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Any tried and true methods for finding pike, of any size, regularly?  What types of cover and depths work the best?  Warm days or cool days?

Love catching 'em, just need to find 'em!

Thanks!

I like to fish shallow bays that are about 10ft deep
They  like weeds.
Use Suckers on tip ups, about 4-7 inchers are best
Go to the pike forum for more info as this is the tipup one  ;)
if anybody from michigan will help me out with the lakes and stuff up here I'd really appreciate it since I'm new to the area.

when setting up for big northerns i like to focus on weedlines. i also like to use a decent size sucker of shiner, and set my depth just a few feet under the ice. where i fish finding northerns isn't exactly rocket science, and you can catch them just about anywhere.
