Post by: hardwaterhonkey on Mar 01, 2024, 06:26 AM
I’ve been bouncing between open and icejust about every other weekend this winter. weird winter sadly I’m actually satisfied with 11 days on the ice nothing compared to my usual years of 29-31 days on the ice a year but I’ll take what I can get hope everyone enjoyed there ice season and it was safe for all have a good summer, until next year

Honkey, I have had 14 days on the ice so far and looking for 2 more next week. I won't risk my life for it though, and the trip might end up just being an Adirondack sightseeing trip, which is never a bad thing !

P.S. I am trying to find out how much fried pike 1 guy can eat  :o

Yeah, the rain tomorrow I think is going to be the end for me too.  Wanted one more go at it but 3 hour drive to sit in rain doesn't seem enjoyable.

At least we got out there once together for a slay fest Dylan.  Looking forward to the salt.  Moving marinas this year to get closer to those tuna!

Just put my stuff away this morning. I can't think of a place I want to go bad enough to take the chance. Everywhere I enjoy fishing is mush or gone. This weather coming spells trouble. Time to start dreaming of next season.

My season started on December 27th in the Adirondacks and ended this past Sunday on 11.5 inches ice in Albany County.
Very certain there as still  a good 2+ weeks of places to ice fish.  Unfortunately no more time to travel.  For such a strange season I was able to drill holes on 15 days over that time frame.
With retirement in the future,  no matter the conditions,  time won't be a factor and the ice will be there, somewhere..
Enjoy the break in the ice folks.

Fished on ice 10 times this year 👎. Would have been a lot more if that pesky work didn’t get in the way. I’m switching gears this weekend as well.

Yup even the fish are tired of ice and cold water.

they want sun   days and warmer water.
    get out the boat

Well I’m throwing in the towel , I tossed the spud through with a stroke & 1/2 , so it’s boat perching tomorrow

Took the spud out of my truck on Friday, I'm done for the season. My trekker suit is hanging in the basement ready for spring crappie fishing if necessary.

Packed all of my gear over the weekend as well. I live in Saratoga County and the ice was sketchy here all year. We got out on Paradox a couple weekends ago....and that was the only time on the hard stuff. Total bummer. But, the boat wakes up from winter slumber in mid-April, so at least there is something to look forward to!

Tight lines!

We aren’t late we chose to ice fish , got the rest of the year to boat fish or shore fish 😉

I prefer ice fishing  over open water fishing. I fish by myself and acknowledge the risk associated with it, but ice fishing allows me to access water that I wouldn't fish during the open water season.

My son and I fished the central Adirondacks today and yesterday. We were on 10 inches of ice, the bottom 5 inches was black ice so it was plenty safe. Caught a bunch of small pike and kept 4 of them because we loive to eat fish, and we barley do any open water fishing. We called it a season while walking off the ice at 11:30 this morning. The only reason for quitting is that we need to drive 3+ hours just to find any ice, and I don't want to drive up there again next weekend just to find nothing is safe ice. If I lived in the Adirondacks, I would be ice fishing until there was no chance to get on the ice anywhere.
