weekend
« on: Dec 05, 2005, 05:17 PM »
who is making plans for this weekend
i plan on going both days in central mass perhaps maybe quaboag pond in Brookfield and if that is not safe a have a few small ponds that will produce some nice fish but i can almost guarantee that quaboag will be safe as long as it doesnt get to windy
there are already ponds that are completely iced over also

It will probably another week before I think there will be safe ice. Be careful if your heading out this weekend!

I have to agree. I would wait another week before stepping out on to any ice this weekend. I want to go as bad as anyone but hate the idea of falling thru.

I was out checking out the ponds in the area of central MA today. Most ponds have wide open areas and some, like Comet Pond, are completely open water. Some of the real small ponds might be safe to walk on but I wouldn't try it. If you want to risk going out this weekend remember to be carefull, stay dry and post a report when you get home. :)

a large pond like comet will be open for a long time before it is covered with ice becasue of all the springs in it creating moving water in there and also there is a lot of wind up at comet which makes it hard to freeze but
why not start on a smaller pond that produces a lot of nice fish that will be planty safe by this weekend.
Did you go to the pond that is down by wachusett precast in the center of hubbardston that is usually one of the first lakes to freezes also ???

If you are determined to get on the ice this weekend - head west or north and fish SHALLOW bays on SHALLOW ponds.I for one don't want to read in the paper or on the news about any ACCIDENTS involving ice fishermen - your Life is TOO IMPORTANT!!
GOOD LUCK - GOOD FISHING

I know it's tough to avoid the urge, but please be careful out there.

we have 5 inches already at 11:00 and if you go to quaboag you probably wont be able to get on by the boat ramp you will have to go all the way to the back side where it is protected by the wind
if it is at all safe there will be people out there
there are always people out there as soon as possible
