we might get a big storm monday into tuesday will it effect anything, if we start to get any ice in the next few day thats going to be gone right? but will the snow or slush on the lake freeze and make some ice.

with snow on top of a thin layer of ice that may have already formed,or snow changing to ice is going to create a dangerous situation for 1st ice . Need 4 days of 10-15 degrees days with no or light wind to lock a pond or lake and start making some BLACK ice. BE CAREFUL

For first ice it can make it dangerous. However as the winter progresses you will get better ice under the white ice. Obvously the ice freezes from the top down so you'll get better ice later in the season if you don't have it early on.

it all depends how much ice is on the lake and then also how much snow falls
if it stays windy like this there isnt going to be much ice but for right now it would must likely hurt the ice unless we only recieve 1-2 inches of snow then the snow would get wet and freeze
but then it would make the water under it harder to freeze because the snow is insulating the ice

tomarrow 1-3inches and Monday into Tuesday it soppose to be a big storm but if there in no ice then the snow will melt when it hits the water correct? i sure hope so most lake i went by today had no ice because the wind

weather just said 2-5" for tomarrow and Mikey it not to safe if the snow freezes its really weak ice which bites because thats the faster way to get ice but not safe i hope there is no ice(i cant believe i just said that) until these storms are over $:-\$

this comeing week looks real good for making some black ice so no snow would be geat

Winter is here, snows fallin, temperatures droppin....but... 1 thing missin still NO ICE, and this new snow could make first ice scetchy, which sux.

yes it does, has anyone drove by any lakes today and was there ice with snow on top or were they clear of ice

I was in NH this weekend and the ice was startin to freeze again up there. Hopefully this snow doesnt kill our ice down here.

Looks like its gonna be a southern storm. I saw a few diff reports on how much where i live and im expecting 2-4 inches.

Interesting forecast upcoming. An inch an hour Friday, 8 to 10" would make a dangerous scenario for waters that have some ice on them already, be careful. Those that have no ice may turn out to be a blessing.

Inch a hour would be nice seeing I do not have any safe ice it would be nice to take the atv out and do some trail riding.

Fridays weather is not looking good for our early ice making. I saw some 6+ totals on the news today. $:-\$ Lets hope they are wrong as usuall.

Seen a few forecasters calling for up to 10", not good ! The maps make it look like it's going to hit us versus last weeks coastal storm.

they are calling for a 10-20mph blow tonight after the storm.. should clear up the ice from the snow if all goes well -tightlines moose

i sure hope so, i herd that the pond behind blue northern is over 2" of black ice dont know if its true but that pond isnt that big and is protected from the wind its woods all around it almost and there are some big picks in there

Here in Peabody, on the coast we got a ton of rain. We have about 2" of slush. I guess its better than 10" of snow.

we have 9 1/2 to 10 inches of snow here in centrall mass but it is supposed to stop around 3 so after that i will go and check a few ponds becasue last night it was 12 degrees when i went to bed
also the wind has picked up like crazy and snow is blowing every where so if i get out tomorrow i will be in for wind burn
