The Things You Find By Accident
« on: Dec 20, 2015, 05:04 PM »
I know this isn't ice fishing, but.......
My son and I we're doing some shopping at a nice country store this afternoon. On the way back he noticed this place called "Mantiques". In the front lot was an Edsel for sale . We stopped in. Amongst the toy trains, neon beer signs and more man collectibles, we stepped into a back room to find,

A hippo skull and others

Water buffalo and other mounts

A full giraffe neck about 9' tall

A baboon head

A zebra head

There was a whole bunch of other African stuff and mounts that I couldn't identify.

This place is at a 4 corners in the middle of nowhere NY. Just amazing. Thought I'd share.

Holcomb NY. Corner of 5/20 and 64.

Honestly I didn't look at the prices. I was in awe. The mounts were really good and in great condition. The Edsel Citation was a runner. $6500 and it's yours. Even had the push button transmission in the center of the steering wheel.

Did they show the Edison Phonograph they have? It was in great working condition with a whole bunch of cylinders.

It's called Mantiques and Oddities,  Bloomfield,  NY if anyone wants to look it up. Really neat, thanks for sharing.

There was (is?) a place in Duluth called Tony's Trading Post that had stuff like that.  I was in there once before the days of camera phones.  Really weird stuff in that store.  Tables made out of elephant feet.  Table cloths made out of elephant ears.  Dioramas of raccoons and squirrels dressed up like Nazi storm troopers.  More dioramas of stuffed animals depicting famous movie scenes.  A friend and I were in there and we noticed what at first looked like a deer hide dress.  The inside was tanned and the outside still had the fur on it.  A closer look revealed that it was a full once piece deer hide jumpsuit.  It laced up in the front and my guess is that it took 5 deer hides to make.  I simply had to buy the thing.  It weighs about 50 pounds and is freaking warm.  I wore it to the NFC title game a few years back in Green Bay when they lost to the Giants in overtime and ended up shedding layers underneath and was down to my boxers and a t-shirt and was still sweating my butt off.  Great conversation piece too.

What a cool store and pics! If only I had money to burn, I'm sure that I could find a wall for that baboon head.
