Your 2022/23 season recap
« on: Feb 19, 2023, 06:17 PM »
Got one day of ice fishing in this season, caught 4 perch.  Thought about driving somewhere to find good ice but reports seemed sketchy even into northern NY.

Hopefully next season will be better but with the weather anymore who knows.

How was your 2022/23 season.  How many days on the ice did ya get?

I got 4 days out, with the highlight being my first muskie. But I did spend more time at the shooting range than on the ice.

Only once for me and had a great day jigging up bass, pickerel, perch and gills. Fished open water Friday and Sunday in southern Wayne County and killed the bass and pickerel slow rolling a swim jig. Even saw a northern water snake on a rock Friday. Crazy winter.

4 trips out for me, all to Lake Arthur.  Shortest season I've ever experienced.  Nonetheless, I'm always thankful for what I have, and the short season had some decent fishing out the gate.  Usually, I am willing to travel but the ice conditions across the state and even into New York just didn't strike an interest/chance this season.  I hope to be able to make up for lost time in future seasons, for now the 4-wheeler will get some wintertime action.

Only out 7 times and did horrible on panfish, good as usual on pickerel, and average on bass. A normal year for me is 20-25 outings mostly on my two favorite lakes, with another 6-7 different/new ones throw in for variety.

I got out about 5 times, never on more than 6 inches of ice and it took a lot of driving + searching for elevation/wind protection/etc. Worst year by far since I started ice fishing. I'll be taking a fishing break until April when the water temps come up and fish start moving around again. Open water has been slow for me the couple of times I've tried this winter.

These cold temps in the morning are such a tease. Then it's back to 40-50 degrees in the afternoon. Just reminds me that I have to pull the kayaks out and check them for spiders and such.

A lot of guys in PA ice fished about as much as I did here in TX.

And that's a dirty shame...

If you had told me 50 years ago that there would be open water in PA in Feb I'd a called the guys in white coats...
Ice fishin' & turtlin's all I crave...

Check out my new thread in the New York General section. There will still be plenty of ice on most lakes in the Adirondacks and on the shallow bays of Lake Champlain until at least mid March. I don't necessarily want you PA guys catching MY fish, but you are highly welcome to come to northern NY to catch OTHER GUYS' fish LOL. Drive north of Albany on I-87 and you will find ice on the smaller lakes not too far from that road
The Ultimate Warrior is possessed with great power from the heavens above ! Against the mighty lake trout and pike and schools of crappie, the power of the WARRIOR will always ......... PREVAIL !!!

Your fish are safe from me at least. If there isn't any ice and I have a need to catch a fish I'll just drag out the kayak and jig over the side. Just as much fun with a different twist. Even got a flasher on board ;D

I'm cleaning my striker suit and when it's dry I'll pack it away. But I got some decent memories to go into the early soft water season we are getting. Just wish I got to hang out with the guys more. That's where I get most of my fun memories from.

I only got one day in, but I caught my biggest largemouth bass ever.  I had to estimate the length and weight (around 20 in - 5 lbs.+).  I did have my phone, but it was off and with my equipment, but because I wanted to get it back in the water quickly, I didn't take a pic.  I also caught a few dink perch and a couple of small bluegills.  I kept my equipment out hoping for ice, but I think it gets put away today.

Well boys, my Ice season ended before it even started. LOL

With my swing shift working schedule and the crappy warm weather days in between them, I just never was able to get out.  Soooo.......  instead,  I'm moving on to my newest adventures for this Spring, Summer, Fall for fishing!

Been doing a lotta research and buying all new gear, bells and whistles and will be heading to the big lakes in Pa. and New York and setting up my big boat for deep trolling for Browns, Lakers, Walleye and Salmon.
All new experience for me and really looking forward to it !!!  Sorry I didn't get to meet up with Spider, Rutt, Chapru and THE CHEZ !

PS.. A BIG PLUS!!!! 1 more year and I will be retiring!!!!!!!!!!!!!  HA.     :woot: :woot: And it can't come soon enough!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

PEACE OUT GUYS....
