hey the new dec access on sandy pond that's a car top only launch? and is open 24 hours?
Better to have all of that lake effect land in open water than on weak iceYes sir
Better to have all of that lake effect land in open water than on weak icehopefully all the rotten ice got destroyed before the lake effect hit, at this point its better to start all over as much as it sucks. The pond needs a new start.
Hello new to the site and new to ice fishing and fish sandy pond regularly looking forward to learning more about the sportWelcome Dylan!!!!😎
Hey folks. A few friends and I are coming from Northeast PA the weekend of Feb. 11. I've heard there is zero ice at this point on Sandy pond. I've also fished south Colwell Pond in the past. Just wondering if anyone thinks it will be safe anywhere or maybe we will need a crash course on steelhead fishing! Haha
I just want to throw this out there. I have not seen JBogey post since the very unfortunate incident. It really pains me to think that he should feel any worse then any of us feel about this unfortunate incident. All of his posts he HARPED AND HARPED about safety first and to spud. If you read this JBogey my heart is heavy with you and I look forward to your posts and hopefully to catch up with you on the ice..
hopefully with these sub 32 temps its growing some ice! although on my drive up to drum this morning, from mexico to sandy creek on 81 was getting hit pretty good with snow :-\
When I walk out of the wig wam, which way is the rock pile that everyone warns about?pretty much straight out of the ramp. It's a good sized rock pile.....roughly 0.2 mile from the ramp. Google Navionics web app.... you'll see the rock pile hazard area!!!
Has anyone seen Boggey ? Truly boring without his outstanding input.
Just wondering if anyone has ventured out yet. Been a cold week now. I'm really hoping to try GP this week.
That area has been getting pounded with lake effect. I would guess that any ice on the Pond is under some snow but maybe a local can give us a report...
Any ice reports on Sandy pondI don't have an ice report but I did see a dozen trucks at Green Point and several shacks on the ice today.
bird you got the best keeper in the world coming!!!! you stay safe
hey reel where you at the wig wam or the state launch?
Yo Guys & Gals,
I have to make 3 posts just like any other newby.
Yo Dom,
Fulton not so much, The Pond got a ton. Oneida is better off than the Pond this year. I took a trip to Fair Haven this morning and cut a couple holes to check it out. The wind was howling, blew me off the ice. I will write a report on the Fair Haven reports and conditions page.
Boggey
This just made my day Buddy , I just got back on the other day to post Green point is open, love your new name
Pike perch walleye bluegill crappie

Fished the pond out from Wigwam on Friday. Caught over 100 perch between three of us and kept over fifty plus 1 nice 30" northern. How was the drag?

Yo New Old Guy,
Eyes at Oneida and Perch on the Pond nice job ! I have a nice care package of Venison prepared for you when we get together :-) I'm sitting this weekend out myself due to extreme conditions ........... I'll give you a call over the weekend and maybe we can meet up Monday or a nice weather day next week ! Fish On ...........
Looking to see if the shoreline/pond is good enough for a ATV? Any input would be appreciated. Thank you
We have a snowmobile and were planning on using it tomorrow so I went down to the pond to see if anyone was out there with a sled.... nothing.... not one or even a track and I drove all the way around the pond! I don't know why they aren't driving on it but I'm not going to be the first one to do it... not with a six month old at home!! Sooo a 4 wheeler??? Im going to use a famous phrase here, I don't give suggestions I just make observations but whatever you decide stay safe!!
Post Script: Klino did contribute his winnings to the Sandy Creekd Fire Deptment. last year, sufficiently happy to bear the title . "King of the Pond" If I recall correctly, it was a nice fat 12 and 3/4 inch slob.
tommyboy God bless and you will be in our prayers ...thank you for keeping us all safe and free ..........amen to that

Yo Scout,yessir......lots of great memories
True, but I'll bet you and many others have had similar stories to tell eh? If you ice fish as many times a week as I do, every time out has it's own risks and rewards.
Hey boggey, im sad to say i probably wont be at the tournament this year. We just rescued a puppy from Alabama so our hands are pretty full taking care of this little guy. I am however sending up a darn good basket of gear with a Fenwick Elite rod for SCFD to raffle off.
Well wishes to all who get out this weekend, please go see my good friends at the Sandy Creek Fire Department Derby and even if you dont catch the big one they sure have some good raffles.
Meet Charlie "rescued him in 2013 from Texas" and our new boy Remington "rescued from Mobile Alabama"

Yo Trap,
You are the one to give Chilled a primer on them slime logs. Every time I go out with you , you seem to attract them eh? Don't worry about the snow cover. Them is all hard core addicts at tournament time. I am still looking for a partner bud. You know, someone to carry me on his back.   I promise I will sing, or not if you come with me ;D ;D ;D
Hey Boggey...seriously have you ever thought about writing short stories? My fishing adventures. Fun read. you may be surprised if you looked into it. :)
Yo kracken,I sent you a pm yesterday morning but I think it was a little late to get together. I went off the Wigwam to an undisclosed location and caught a nice limit in about 3hrs. Drag out not bad about 2inch with some drifts. The way back in was a different story!! Snow up to the knees and very little visibility needless to say the drag was brutal. Amazing how much weight a limit of perch can add the the sled!! Fortunately I did have a compass thanks to Jimmy at salmon river sports! He hooked me up before I went out knowing the visibility was going to be low. I normally use my phone as a GPS for tracking my movement but in this case I didn't want to rely solely on technology to get me off the ice safe. All in all it was a nice day off and I was back at the daycare by noon to pick up little birdslayer! He got his first training on how to fillet a perch... had to do it when the wife wasn't around. For some reason she thinks 6 months is too early for him to watch his dad clean fish! She was wrong as I suspected.... although I won't say that directly too her! Haha He loved the noise of the electric knife and was very curious of the things going on and all movements while I made short work of a 50 fish limit. I'm originally from jefferson county where it's unlimited so cleaning 50 is dare I say.... child's play!!?? Bad joke I know but had to do it!
I thought I was writing short stories ;D ;D
Yo Birdslayer,
Give old Boggey a call on them "snow days". Now that wrestling season is nearly done I will get my school teacher son and grand son out on the ice as well. You and Shayne can have a "Teachers Conference" on the ice.
Never caught one. Are they any good eating or even legal yo kerp. I let it go not knowing what it was.
Yo Guys & Gals,NOG, I hope you don't mind, this is so well written, I've been copying it into other threads and giving you the credit. Thanks for the sage advice!
Just a quick note here. Check your 10 day weather forecast for the coming week if you are making plans to hit the ice. Today and tomorrow look to be outstanding, after that the weatherman says we are not only turning warm, but the warmth will be coupled with some rain on Thursday and Friday. The warm weather will extend on into the week end. While we have been blessed with some great ice so far this season, the advent of warmer conditions and the oncoming spring like conditions will warrant a good look see before entering your favorite honey hole in your next week's traveling plans. Some accesses will be better than others, obviously.
Remember, those creek flow areas are always the first to go. The gas holes which seemingly disappear with all the snow cover are still there and will be more visible in the coming week . The thinner ice will go first so don't forget to bring your spuds with you that you left home for the last 2 weeks. This is the time of winter we all have to be aware. Let's all stay safe and use good judgement. I want all my friends to be there next year so I can kibitz with them. In closing, I will again use the old admonition ..... SPUD SPUD SPUD
Yo guys & Gals,
I hope you all have a Happy Valentines day. I took the day off from ice fishing to spend with my Sweeta-Rita. Since I couldn't talk her into spending the day out on the ice, we did the next best thing, dinner at Longhorn's, with desert . After 46 years of Valentines day with the same woman, I sorta kinda think she is a keeper and the best thing that ever came into my life. After 5 children, 11 grand kids (with #12 on the way) and 2 great grand kids (with another on the way), I thank the Lord for trusting this kind woman into my life, our lives. She is the mainstay of our family, the rock, the ying to my yang, the flourishing well from which all good things have sprung fourth in our family. So on this day I celebrate this kind and wonderful woman and hope she will continue to be My Valentine
Boggey, I hope you let your wife read that post, it would probably be the nicest Valentine any woman could ask for! Luck you and Lucky Her!

Yo Tom,
Let's find out bud. I will get the Otter "STEALTH" out and we can park right over the top of the Homey hole when the ice clears out.
In fact TommyBoy, I am getting ready for my annual trip up to Kring's Point . Just waiting for "ice out" reports. I guess it's time to switch my efforts to the MyFishFinder site.
