Only takes a three finger heater these days 😜, hand warmers and gators work great on the sled
KP we also have a soft water version of FFP and we call him big jimmy , should rename him windy 😉
Ha!  Just stopped to see Jimmy at LogCabins the other day - he is still squirting water out his Pipe from his dip last winter.  :woot:

Between duck hunting and Work... I’ve managed to start going thru my ice gear. New line on all the reels, fired up the gas auger and, got the machines serviced for the winter. I’m ready!!

What/where do you have booked at Black Lake?  Should be good timing.

Temps are looking colder for a while. Also it looks like the snow will be staying north for a while too. We shall see...

The latest episode of In Depth Outdoors discusses ice safety. It was nice to see them highlight the importance of using a spud along with picks and a float suit.

I agree. Late muzzle loading. Then hopefully right to ice fishing if it stays cold in Hamilton county. I`m ready...

Expect snow, not ice on the Great Lakes this winter

12/7 - Over the past two winters, the Great Lakes have had a below-average ice cover. And that’s expected to continue this year. One of ice climatologist Jia Wang’s biggest jobs is the annual ice cover prediction for the Great Lakes. He’s with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration office in Michigan, which tracks ice cover throughout the winter. This year, he expects the five lakes to have a 26 percent ice cover. That’s down from the historical average of 55 percent.

And Wang says that means a warmer, La Nina winter, with more lake effect snow. Cold winds can pick up moisture as they pass over the open water, dumping snow when they hit land.

Lake Erie (the shallowest Great Lake) and Lake Superior (the northernmost) are projected to get the most ice cover this year – 48 percent and 31 percent, respectively.

Wang cautions that his recent predictions have had mixed results. In 2016, his prediction was pretty close. But last winter he missed badly. NOAA predicted a 55 percent ice cover for the Great Lakes – the reality was more like 20 percent.

Well we shall see if he’s on his game a lot depends on the wind direction , Last year the major snows stayed north Of me only got 1 drop over 2’
I’m not one for long range forecasts , I take it as it comes
